Photographer’s Note

Hola,

After my submitted pictures from Golden city of India (Jaisalmer, Rajasthan), now let me take you to the "Golden City of Spain", the city of Salamanca. "Villamayor sandstone" is being used for constructing almost all the buildings in Salamanca. This sandstone is being brought from a quarry situated in Villamayor village located close to the city of Salamanca.

Salamanca is an old city which is located in the western Spain, the capital of Salamanca province. During my stay in Salamanca, I felt the flair and ambience of an old city in and around Salamanca. Its golden streets are assets of this Spanish golden city, which is famous for its old University, founded by Alfonso X in the year'1218. Salamanca has one of the oldest university in Europe.

In year 2002, Salamanca shared the title of "European Capital of Culture" with Bruges. This old city of Salamanca was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in the year 1988. Tourism is the primary economic activity in the city.
