Photographer’s Note
Along with the Alcázar and the cathedral, this roman aqueduct is one of the major landmarks of Segovia.
The time of its construction is unknown, but historians believe that it was built in the late 1st century AD or the early 2nd century. It was used until recently and it is one of the most outstanding and best kept Roman constructions of Iberian Peninsula. The tallest part, which I believe is depicted here, is 28.5 meters tall. It took water to the city from a source 17 Km away.
The last major restoration started in 1997 and some sources state that the works aren't finished yet. I don't know if the situation improved, but there is much concern about the negative impact of pollution, with some people talking about real danger of collapse.

Hi, Kris -
Why this has only gotten 4 points up to now is beyond me; this is classic TE and an excellent photo. Great lines, great composition, great use of light and shadow. And well framed by the buildings on either side. The people are well placed for scale and human interest.
Good job!
Best,
Dan
