Cathedral of Segovia Photo

Photographer’s Note

Because tomorrow is the last Sunday of 2008, here it goes another photo of the cathedral of Segovia, taken from a little alley beside it.

WS: A view of the main tower with a façade in front of it.

The next lines are copied from the note of my earlier post of the cloister of the same church.

The cathedral was built in the 16th century, replacing the older cathedral that was destroyed in the course of a revolt that happened in 1520. The cloister that we see here was translated from that older cathedral, which didn't stand on the same location. The main style is late Gothic (I think I have read somewhere that it is the last of the great Gothic cathedrals built in Spain), but it has many traces of Renaissance and Baroque. It's is often called "The Lady of the Spanish Cathedrals" because of its dimensions and elegance. As a matter of fact, I find surprising how a building that is so huge and imposing can be so elegant. The height of the main nave is 33 m (108 ft) and the highest tower is 90 m (295 ft) high.

Good tribute for last Sunday of 2008. I like your well processed photo in good sharpness that shows all details perfectly, but the lion faces down to ground, looking us are amazing. Excellent addition of complementary posts too.

Bom dia José, andas com um ritmo de posts alucinante antes de acabar o ano - a ver se te consigo acompanhar ;-) Mais uma vez gosto destas vistas picadas para o céu e adoro aquelas gárgolas em especial aquela a olhar direitinha para nós. Tiro sempre muitas fotos daqueles bichinhos e sou capaz de me passar e postar um detalhe...Apetece-me mesmo cortar este 1º plano mesmo resultando num formato esquisito e retirando alguma profundidade que quiseste manter - a diagonal faz-me confusão. O WS podia ter sido post principal, pois tem umas cores e contrastes fabulosos - além disso gosto da antena altíssima a armar-se ao pingarelho.

Another creative image with merged exposures judging from the theme you put it in. From this POV it seems as if the gargoyles are leaning over us. The top of the building on the right is a surprise addition to the composition making a more artistic image.

nice the perspective of this part of the Cathedral of Segovia,with the texture of its walls to be captured perfect.The sharpness and the clarity of the shot is well managed, as the light of the sky,that is a difficult one.Well done.

O "eye contact" com aquela escultura logo ali em cima está tão impressionante, que ela parece viva e que vai saltar a qualquer momento. O POV pareceu-me estratégico e muitíssimo bem sucedido para este resultado.

Hola mi querido amigo José.
Aquí has conseguido una excelente vista de una parte de la preciosa catedral desde un buen POV. Los colores están muy buenos así como los detalles y definicion. Lo que aparece arriba a la derecha me imagino que pertenece a la catedral aunque parece que son ventanas modernas.
Un fuerte abrazo y de nuevo te deseo a ti y tu familia que tengan un año 2009 lleno de salud, paz, amor y prosperidad.

Bonjour,
belle photo de cette cathédrale de toute beauté sous cet excellent POV qui nous montre en contre plongée ces gargouilles qui ne sont pas prettent a faire leur offices vu le ciel que vous avez.

Although this is a hidden church surrounding by resident houses, but it is really large and still visionable from many direction like the tower show in WS, good shoot to the statues looking down to earth, thanks for sharing.

Sin duda de que le has sacado mucho gusto a este lugar en la localidad de Segovia. Ensayando y descubriendo diversos ángulos de tiro, has creado composición excelentes como esta. El plano en contrapicado y bien logrado, está muy equilibrado al resto del encuadre, con un apropiado manejo de la iluminación.
