I continue with the photos that I took during my night walk across the wonderful city of Salamanca. In this case, I present you the only sample of the Modernism in this city, the Lis House, which contrasts with the impressive Romanesque, Gothic, Plateresque or Baroque architecture that we can see in this city, Heritage of the Humanity.
It is a night capture on the illuminated front of this precious modernist building, where the windows are outlined because of its incredible beauty. Here already I used my tripod, and worked at format RAW and at a longer exposure time.

The Lis House
Information: Don Miguel de Lis de la Puebla, an industrial tanner of Salamanca and a great lover of the Art Nouveau, entrusted in 1890 to the architect Don Joaquín de Vargas Aguirre the construction of a modernist mansion on the banks of the Tormes river and on the former wall of the city, undoubtedly a privileged place. Slightly curious bearing in mind through as Salamanca always had lived at backs to its river.

The works were finished in 1905, installing to him in the house Lis's family. For several years of wealth and glamour, the family was famous because of his big parties for the well-off middle class and the newly rich ones of the city. In 1909 Don Miguel de Lis dies and the family needs to sell the house, being acquired by the Rector Esperabé, who lived there up to after the Civil war. Later, the house was rented by zones to different families, and by rooms to professors of the University until was totally abandoned. Finally in 1982 the Town hall initiates a process of expropriation of the house, and for this reason it happens to be of his property. In the 90s it is restored to receive the museum of Art nouveau and Art Déco, being opened for the public in 1995.

The mansion is of double floor and has two very diverse fronts, according to the cathedral and to the river. The southern front is opened for the landscape and for the horizon on the city wall. It is a closed metal framework windows of Juan Villaplana, and placed on a stone basement, only interrupted by the monumental stairs that saves the different levels of the area.

The other front was the habitual entry of the housing, and today it is of the museum. Is realized in brick and stone, and as its wall of forge, adjusts to the limited front that allows the narrow street where it is placed.

The pieces of this museum concerned to the private collection of D. Manuel Ramos Andrade, donated to the city before his death. They are near 3.000 pieces that represent the art that appears in Europe between 1830 and 1920, known as Art nouveau and Art Déco. This art was born of the need of many artists of the epoch to create objects of daily use that were not stopping possessing the beauty and the value of a great work, since they were fed up as that their works only were using to be seen in museums.

The house contains one of the most complete collections of porcelain wrists, fans and jewels of diverse cultures and utensils full of captivation. It is necessary to emphasize also the collection of criselefantinas, pieces realized in ivory and bronze elaborated with great subtlety.

Continúo con las fotos que tomé durante mi paseo nocturno a través de la maravillosa ciudad de Salamanca. En este caso, os presento la única muestra del Modernismo en esta ciudad, la Casa Lis, que contrasta con la impresionante arquitectura románica, gótica, plateresca o barroca que podemos ver en esta Ciudad Patrimonio de la Humanidad.
Es una toma nocturna sobre la fachada iluminada de este precioso edificio modernista, donde se destacan las vidrieras a causa de su increíble belleza. Aquí ya utilicé mi trípode, y trabajé en formato RAW y una exposición más larga.

La Casa Lis
Información: Don Miguel de Lis de la Puebla, industrial curtidor de Salamanca y gran enamorado del Art Nouveau, encargó en 1890 al arquitecto Don Joaquín de Vargas Aguirre la construcción de una mansión modernista a orillas del río Tormes y sobre la antigua muralla de la ciudad, lugar indudablemente privilegiado. Algo curioso teniendo en cuenta que Salamanca siempre había vivido de espaldas a su río.

Las obras acabaron en 1905, instalándose en la casa la familia de Lis. Durante varios años de riqueza y glamour la familia era conocida por sus grandes fiestas para la burguesía acomodada y los nuevos ricos de la ciudad. En 1909 muere Don Miguel de Lis y la familia se ve obligada a vender la casa, siendo adquirida por el Rector Esperabé, quien vivió en ella hasta después de la Guerra Civil. Más tarde, la casa fue alquilada por zonas a diferentes familias, y por habitaciones a catedráticos de la Universidad hasta que llegó a quedar totalmente abandonada. Finalmente en 1982 el Ayuntamiento inicia un expediente de expropiación de la casa, por lo que pasa a ser de su propiedad. En los años 90 se restaura para acoger el museo de Art Nouveau y Art Déco, abriéndose al público en 1995.

La mansión es de doble piso y tiene dos fachadas muy diversas, acordes a la catedral y al río. La fachada orientada al sur se abre al paisaje y al horizonte sobre la muralla. Es una estructura de hierro cerrada con vidrieras de Juan Villaplana y alzada sobre un basamento de piedra, sólo interrumpido por la monumental escalera que salva el desnivel del terreno.

La otra fachada era la entrada habitual de la vivienda, y hoy lo es del museo. Está realizada en ladrillo y piedra, y como su muro de forja, se ajusta al reducido frente que permite la estrecha calle en la que se encuentra.

Las piezas de este museo pertenecían a la colección privada de D. Manuel Ramos Andrade, donada a la ciudad antes de su muerte. Son cerca de 3.000 piezas que representan el arte que aparece en Europa entre 1830 y1920, conocido como Art Nouveau y Art Déco. Este arte nació de la necesidad de muchos artistas de la época de crear objetos de uso cotidiano que no dejaran de poseer la belleza y el valor de una gran obra, pues estaban hartos de que sus obras solo sirviesen para ser vistas en museos.

La casa contiene una de las más completas colecciones de muñecas de porcelana, abanicos y joyas de diversas culturas y utensilios llenos de encanto. Cabe destacar también la colección de criselefantinas, piezas realizadas en marfil y bronce elaboradas con gran sutileza.
