The Plaza del Grano is a square placed in old town of León. Though popularly it is known as square of the grain, its official name is Plaza of Santa Maria del Camino because of having been placed behind the homonymous church. It possesses a stone pavement typical of the medieval León.
Its current name is due to the markets in which there were sold grain and other products of the field that took place here.
The square is of irregular plant and has arcades partially, since though in origin the totality of the square was with arcades, the pass of the years has done the old buildings has been replaced with others without porches.

The church of Santa Maria del Camino is of the 12th century, though it was reformed in the later centuries, for what it presents a mixture of styles: Romanesque in the front and both apses; and Gothic in the lateral arches, the main chapel and the high tower belfry. The whole exterior perimeter is decorated by checkered moldings, vegetable forms and figures of monkey-men in the capitals. In its interior there is a carving of the 15th century of the Virgin del Camino, patron saint of the city. The main altarpiece is baroque.
It is known popularly as Church of the Market, because in this square the former weekly markets were celebrated. It was declared in 1973 Historical Monument.

I took the photo under the strong light of the afternoon, which was offering myself a few very interesting warm tonalities.

La Plaza del Grano es una plaza situada en pleno casco antiguo de la ciudad de León. Aunque popularmente se la conoce como plaza del grano, su nombre oficial es el de Plaza de Santa María del Camino al estar situada tras la iglesia homónima. Cuenta con un empedrado característico del León medieval.
Su nombre actual se debe a los mercados en los que se vendían grano y otros productos del campo que tenían lugar aquí.
La plaza es de planta irregular y se encuentra parcialmente porticada, ya que aunque en origen la totalidad de la plaza se encontraba porticada, el paso de los años ha hecho que los viejos inmuebles porticados hayan sido sustituidos por otros sin soportales.

La iglesia de Santa María del Camino es del siglo XII, aunque fue reformada en los siglos posteriores, por lo que presenta una mezcla de estilos: Románico en la portada y los dos ábsides; y gótico en los arcos laterales, la capilla mayor y la altísima torre campanario.
Todo el perímetro exterior está decorado con molduras ajedrezadas, formas vegetales y figuras de hombres mono en los capiteles. En su interior hay una talla del siglo XV de la Virgen del Camino, patrona de la ciudad. El retablo mayor es barroco.
Es conocida popularmente como Iglesia del Mercado, pues en esta plaza se celebraban antiguamente los mercados semanales. Fue declarada Monumento Histórico en 1973.
