Photographer’s Note

The Cathedral of Toledo is of Gothic style and it was constructed in 1226 (XIIIth Century). Is inspired by the Cathedral of Bourges and consists of five naves of staggered heights and the double ambulatory covered by vaults divided in rectangular and triangular sections, a new solution that facilitates the distribution of the pressures with the consequent alleviation of the buttresses, and is one of the best technical contributions of this cathedral. The cruise of just one nave, does not exceed the width of the longitudinal naves. The altarpiece is a work of Philip of Burgundy.

It is difficult to obtain the necessary angle of vision to catch this Cathedral from the top of its great belfry up to the ground, due to the dimensions of the square, and in this capture I tried to catch most of its architecture with the maximum focal angle of my camera. This magnificent architecture deserves the effort to look for a suitable setting, that we believe that is the best.

La Catedral de Toledo es de estilo gótico y fue construida en 1226 (s.XIII).
Se inspira en la Catedral de Bourges y consta de cinco naves de alturas escalonadas y una doble girola cubierta por bóvedas divididas en tramos rectangulares y triangulares, una nueva solución que facilita la distribución de los empujes con el consiguiente aligeramiento de los contrafuertes, y es una de las mejores aportaciones técnicas de esta catedral. El crucero de una sola nave, no rebasa la anchura de las naves longitudinales. El retablo es obra de Felipe de Borgoña.

Es difícil conseguir el ángulo de visión necesario para captar esta Catedral desde la punta de su gran campanario hasta el suelo, debido a las dimensiones de la plaza, y en esta toma intenté captar la mayor parte de su arquitectura con el máximo ángulo focal de mi cámara. Esta magnífica arquitectura merece el esfuerzo de buscar un encuadre adecuado, el que nosotros creamos que es el mejor.

It looks like stunning architecture, and with the difficulties you mention in your note this was a good angle to choose to show as much as possible of the cathedral. I wonder if a stitch of many shots would have worked, in the manner of our friend Didi. You had a perfect sky to adorn the detailed architecture.

Hola Josep,

Excelente detalle de la Catedral de Toledo. La arquitectura gótica es muy bella. Tuve el mismo problema con la Catedral de Málaga, las estrechas calles alrededor y la dificultad de conseguir un buen ángulo de captura. Has conseguido una imagen muy buena, con gran nitidez.

nice perspective. The towers are great to see. The lower point of they gives shows it to us as the towers touches the sky. Dept and sharpness is nice. Light management is perfect here. Detailling of the perspective is excellent. Tfs.

Ho Josep. Great photo, wonderful colour palette and excellent clarity. There are tools in photoshop to straighten photos like this but I think unaltered it gives much presence and drama to the cathedral. Nice work and thanks for sharing.

The architecture is indeed stunning and I know the feeling when you want to show the magnificent Cathedral in its entirety…..like the falling lines here, which creates a converging perspective to meet somewhere up in the sky. I wonder about stitching, whether it would have created something different, like what our friend Didi does which such amazing architecture

Yo he tenido el placer de visitar la ciudad de Toledo en 2004 cuando he estado en España por cerca de 15 días! La arquitectura de todas las ciudades de España me impactaram mucho - todas ellas! Aqui, en esta imagen, tenemos un grande ejemplo de lo que acabé de decir! Así, me gusta mucho esta foto, com todos los bonitos y majestuosos detalles de esta Catedral!
Nitidez, luminosidad, profundidad, colores, punto de vista y composición perfectos!

Hola Josep.
Un precioso angulo en esta composicion, las torres buscando el cielo, si que es dificil de captarla en su conjunto pues la plaza es muy pequeña, en esta toma nos muestras una buena eleccion con la belleza de su torre y sus remates superiores destacandose sobre el fondo de un bonito cielo, muy buena calidad para admirar tantos y bonitos detalles.
