Photographer’s Note
To achieve the Toledo Medina, known as the Walled City, the Knights Hospitallers built the Puerta del Sol in the thirteenth century.
The Puerta del Sol is the oldest of the city was built in the late twelfth century. Most visitors who can appreciate what is preserved from the fourteenth century. Entering it can reach the historic center, or medina arabic. The architecture has an impressive Mudejar style built in stone and brick arches formed by several successive. The name given is that the Sun is represented on a triangular shield in the central medallion next to the Moon.
Beautiful Gate of the Sun in its origins was a tower Albarrana tenth century, which defended the entrance to the city. It was built in the times of the Taifa Kingdom, as is indicated by its horseshoe arches inside. Due to continued civil war reconstruction was necessary in the fourteenth century. Thus became a principal and Mudéjar beautiful example of military architecture. Some argue that mimics the cover granacinas at the time.
In the fourteenth century when the rebuilt Puerta del Sol was built in Mudejar style. Were used as typical materials: masonry blocks and bricks. The vain to find is a horseshoe arch that is part of another, he appears on a frieze of double arches. In the sixteenth century, on a high arc is added to the emblem of the Cathedral under the Moon and the Sun (as we said there is called).
Although buhardas, machicolation battlements and gave him a military role changed and became more defensive a triumphal arch. If we find that there are more pieces detallazos outside the style as a classic or a small bust Paleochristian sarcophagus. This architectural beauty is very close to the Mosque of Cristo de la Luz and is located midway between the square and the door Zocodover Bisagra.
Enter the city through this gate is an almost magical experience because it takes us to medieval times. In those days, the doors to the cities had a social meaning and symbolic depth. Worth going to visit and stay until dusk when the light becomes impressive.

One day I hope to drive through the whole Spain and to see Toledo;)
It's a bit too sharp for me, but maybe it's my screen...
The red colour on the right matches perfectly:)

Manuel,
This is a well composed shot using the wall to lead the eye into the shot. The lighting and colors are great with nice sharpness and detail. The people add a nice sense of scale for the shot.

Asa
