Photographer's Note

The Festivities of Corpus Christi make it the most important festival in Toledo. It probably started being celebrated around the 14th Century (though no proper date or year could be verified)and the celebrations on the day of Corpus Christi is presided over by the Archbishop of Toledo ( who happens to be the Cardinal Primate of Spain). The processions are centered around the Cathedral of Toledo and the surrounding streets are decorated with awnings, wreaths and lanterns. The day before the feast of Corpus Christi the walls, windows and balconies are adorned with antique pennants and tapestries from the 16th and 17th century. The ground is strewn with aromatic herbs whose scent pervades the festive atmosphere of the following days. The programmes last for over a week.
