The Cave of the Greens as Jameos of the Water, it is a section of the tunnel of the Atlantis, which has an extension of 6 kilometers in the surface and 1,5 km under the sea, it is the longest volcanic tunnel of the world. The cave is a part of the washing of lava proveniente of the eruption of the Volcano of The Crown that was advancing towards the sea, does more than four thousand years.

The Cave of the Greens formed because of a current of very fluid lava in which the exterior surface hardens for the cooling caused by the air, forming thus the roof, then when the content empties for term of emission lávica the cave remains constituted. On having come, the lava to the sea provokes the gas accumulation the interior of the cave, which compressed make to jump the roof, this explains the phenomena called Jameos in this case the accesses to the cave.

There exist two theories that explain the name " of the greens " on one hand, the mysterious color of the interior of the cave and for other one the well-known family " The Greens " ancient proprietresses of the grounds in the one that finds the cave, this second theory is most defended by the historians. The Cave of the Greens keeps a rich history, it was inhabited by the pre-Hispanic population, to the interior there have been tools that explain his customs and forms of life, also it has served as refuge opposite to the pirates' attacks that were coming to the island to catch hostages and then to demand goods for his rescue or to capture the natives and to sell them as slaves in Africa and Europe.

In 1964 Jesús Soto designed, conditioned and illuminated a trip of two kilometers to be visited. The trip has a duration of an hour, accompanied of an environmental suitable music and a temperature in the very agreeable interior, it is possible to appreciate capricious forms in the rock, as the stalactites caused by the dripping of the lava that are highlighted by an indirect lighting. Inside the Cave there has been enabled an auditorium that offers one exceptional acoustics suitable for the concerts with wind instruments, it is the second stage of the Festival of Visual Music of Lanzarote.

Hola Ros,

Saludos,
Carlos

Hola Ros,
it is so difficult to make good captures in caves, I was never so successful as you. Wonderful three well showing the structures and texture. I like the "orange" burning here deep in the grey.

Hi Ros,
I've not really fascinated with caves because I don't like the tight spaces. However, this shot is intersting because of the different colors of the rock plus the excellent notes you wrote about the place. I reckon the notes here in TE should also get points because it takes more time to make an essay describing the photo than the actual shooting of the scene :) Anyway, well captured and very good image quality. Good light management considering you were in low lighting condition. Well done! tfs
Cheers,
Renier

Hola Ros!

Has hecho un buen trabajo. Felicidades.

Un abrazo

Josep

Hi Ros,

I love the depth here .. I just got back from doing some cave shots last month (I only posted one) .. I can tell you .. not easy .. you have achieved nice exposure and beautiful color .. and a very tough to find (for me anyway) sense of scale and depth from the near tones ..

there is some noise .. probably from the camera kicking up the ISO for the low light .. and another issue I see in mine is the harsh shadows from the flash ..

I read a couple articles on the issue before going .. two things were often talked about on this issue. One was using a remote hand held flash (or 2) to direct the shadows or going tripod and no flash (but most cave tours don't allow tripods) ... I want to see somebody do one with no flash with a camera with great image stabilization .. I think that would be fun.

Very nice image.

take care,

John
