Photographer's Note
Another picture of the picturesque streets of Ciutadella, once the capital of Menorca and lying at the west end of this small island.
Towering proudly above its surrounding buildings, you can see the east end of the Cathedral of Ciutadella. Built by orders of King Alfonso III of Aragón, conqueror of the Island (1287), on an ancient Moorish mosque, the Cathedral is built in the Catalan Gothic style of the 14th century, although it still retains the old minaret of the earlier mosque.
The Cathedral features some detailed architecture, stone carvings of strange, mythical creatures and a Neo-Gothic canopy that hangs high above the main altar. The exterior features a large collection of gargoyles. It is quite fortress-like in appearance. The facade of the church, in the neoclassical style, was added in 1813. The church suffered heavy damage in 1936, during the Spanish Civil War, but has since been restored.
I think that one or two of the people you can see in the left foreground might be members of our little group who were on a very instructive and enjoyable photographic holiday with Philip Dunn - a wonderful experience.
Shot in RAW and converted and edited in PSE6.

Hi Johm,
a beautiful citiy scene! I like especially the warm colours and light and how you put the light-shadow line exactly in the low right corner...
Have a nice evening

Hi John,
A very blue sky above this beautiful street scene! However, I appreciate that we are standing in the shadow here, the sunshine appears to be quite relentless. Interesting to see that this shadow follows the paving stones and also provide a good diagonal line in the picture. Very attractive colours of the buildings against the blue sky.
Kind regards
Gunnar

Hi John...
very nice street shot with a nice chosen POV with vertical framing...like the composition by the walking people through the street in-between the reddish tone architectures...like the textures of the decayed wall...nice play of light & shadow effect on the street...
superb clarity with nice color tones & sharpness...

Hi John
hmmm...where do i start.
First of all, i love the architecture and the overall charm of the local area, and its always hard to photograph in conditions with light and shadow - i always try to stay away (but now with HDR, i can compensate 100% with that).
interesting how all but one of the window shutters is closed, you'd think the natural light would be a highlight, but perhaps its too hot?
lovely sharpness levels into the bg, and again, the lighting is excellent and luminous.
well done
cheers

This town is really so typical of Mediterranean!
I like a lot the fabulous chromatic contrast between the warm colours of the buildings and the deep blue sky. It's an effect which strikes the observer at once!
But beside that I love the clean and plain architecture of the houses and the Gothic style of the cathedral. The POV you chose allowed you to create a fine sense of space and depth. Curious how the shade fits perfectly with the paved street.
Very fine,
Donato
