Another picture taken at the Fortress of Isabel II, La Mola, Mahon (Mao) Harbour, Menorca. Again, this is part of a series of tunnels which interconnect parts of this huge fortification which was built to protect Mahon harbour, one of the deepest natural harbours in the Mediterranean and one which has, over the years, been extremely important to its occupiers who, over the centuries, have included, at various times, the British, Spanish and French.
You can read a lot more about this place here.
Whereas this picture was taken in a darker part of the tunnel system, this area was in brighter light and was taken hand-held. Shot in RAW and converted and edited in PSE9.

Hello John ,
Your first view of these outstanding arches was not bad at all , but I prefer this one . The light is softer , and the contrasts are less harsh . Also , the perspective is excellent , I must say perfect , towards the black door in the far .
Well done .

My goodness John - You have captured an excellent image with outstanding quality, pin sharp throughout and very good exposure control. The side light is perfect to show the contours of the arches and introduce a nice rhythmic pattern of light and shade. My eye is drawn compellingly to the final arch. Super. Best wishes Rosemary

Love this! The repeating shapes in brown tones are very graphic and give the impression of a never ending tunnel.
Best wishes, Ann

Wonderful exposure for this kind of shot, with absolute clarity and depth of field. Love the perspective which asks me to follow to the last door whee the light fails to reveal the wall.
Three cheers, John!

This is wonderful, the perspective is gob-smacking, as is your light management and depth of field. Your settings really amaze me, I would have thought that it needed a higher ISO, but obviously not! Great job. btw, have you seen the photos of Aadilj here on TE? This photo is reminiscent of his work: http://www.trekearth.com/members/aadilj/photos/

Hi John, You had a lot of fun in Menorca and returned with so many wonderful photos. Such arches and the depth of the image you can get - always temptation. fantastic play of dim light and shadows. nice colour, looks rather like sephia photo.
Have a nice day, from Warsaw

this is a well composed view through the tunnels. It has a nice soft light and textures. I especially like the curved kerbs between the pillars as they make an interesting contrast to the vertical curves of the tunnels.

This looks like a very interesting fortress and it is also a very good motive for a photographer, with the repetition of the arches along the corridor. A fine interaction between light and shadows along here too. I notice a slight assymmetry in the closest arch. Was that visible "in real life" or is it onle a photo distortion?

was this the photo you're talking about that you thought people would respond better to on TE?
just curious :)
I love this shot, this curve and the overall sense of depth. the arches get smaller and smaller, the textures are very well seen and felt.

Carefully handled exposure, excellent lighting, fine lines, framing and fantastic POV is very well evident in this composition of yours. Love the colors and the perspective! Great work! Flawless!
