Looking back through my archives, I found another photograph from the lovely and interesting narrow streets of Ciutadella, a beautiful city in western Menorca. Away from the main shopping areas, these delightful narrow streets, restricted to only pedestrians and cyclists, are wonderful places to roam and take in the old and colourful architecture of the place.
Originally founded by the Carthaginians, Ciutadella (the name means "citadel") was already the seat of a bishop by the 4th century. After being governed by the Moors for several centuries, Ciutadella was recaptured during the reconquista by men serving Alfonso II and became part of the Crown of Aragon. Despite no longer being Minorca's capital (the capital moved to Mahon in 1722), Ciutadella has remained the island's religious centre and has a magnificent cathedral.

I like this kind of shots, capturing daily life. Colours and light management are excellent. I imagine you've waited someone to pass in front of your camera, that's better.

che bella scena, gli uomini sembra che stiano aspettando il passaggio della signora.
La scenografia è splendida, un bel vicolo caratteristico, ben illuminato e con magnifici colori.

that's a spectacular view of the street with great framing and exquisite details. The lady is perfectly placed in the photograph and the two men partly visible on the left make the scene very interesting. The colours are vibrant but pleasing. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.

Lots of life in this small narrow passageway, John. The woman looks like she's walking with quite a bit of purpose - a difference from the men, who simply sit and stand nearby! Nice perspective following the cobblestones up and through the shot, a great vertical frame. Thanks!

hello John, Charming photo from your archive. So many small but fabulous details here, the guy sitting on the step with newspaper, other just standing, and lovely street so narrow that there are no cars, marvelous lamps above... Stunning composition.
have a nice day

I really liked the POV in here. Highly balanced and symmetric image, beautifully exposed colors and all elements that should be in a nice photograph is present, and seemingly compliment each other. The candid moment is simply fantastic and I just like images from narrow streets and alleys.

I'm not sure whether the lady's concerned face is a result of you photographing her or the man watching her but she does make a great focal image!
A really well composed and nicely balanced shot. You have absolutely dictated how you want viewers to see your shot.
There are fine textural details, interesting and varied architectural details and fine, saturated colours.
And, of course, there is the scenario of the lady to keep us guessing!
Have a great Sunday,

I love the texturs of the cobbled path leading the eye up to the end of this very quaint little street. I laughed at Bevs comment above, that woman does look quite grumpy. Although if I was to appear in a photo not knowing I was being shot, I'd probably look the same, I think grumpy is my heads default setting :)
I love the line of shadow on the left and the rich deep colors.
All the best

An interesting note and a very fine picture. A lonely girl (in something red) is walking along the street and some partially hidden men are watching her. A little story is told here, below the interesting and attractive architecture. A good idea to through your archive once in a while.

John, the oranges in this shot are really lovely. Of course you also have the obligatory decorative lanterns which must be in any image of an out-of-the-way street in Europe :) Nice capture of the moment, as well; the two men on the left are looking at nothing but the woman coming down the road. Thanks.
