This picture was taken in May of this year in Ciutadella, a picturesque city in the northwest of Menorca which was, in fact, once the capital city of Menorca. The capital, since 1722, is now Maó or Mahon, in the southeast part of the island.
We went here during a wonderful photographic holiday with Philip Dunn but, at this point, we were given a free rein and so I did my usual thing and just wandered around aimlessly, enjoying walking through the quaint and beautiful little streets of the city.
Shot in RAW and converted and edited in PSE6.

This feels like one of mine. That's not praise, of course! I love the colours and the silhouette of the man gives it life and a human scale. Did you wait for him to appear, or was it a grab shot? Good control of exposure: shooting in RAW allows an awful lot of options for this, doesn't it?

Very beautiful and interesting street & urban & architecture picture!
Sharpness, exposure, colors, chosen pov, vertical format, contrasts and oomposition are all excellent and really pleased me!
TFS - congrats,

I like the backlight in the narrow streets of Ciutadella.
Perfect frame, with beautiful colors and good light.
I am a lover of this city and the island of Menorca.

I thought you were back in Italy, but I see Spanish streets are just as characteristic as the Umbrian ones. I like the light here, there's a definite air of mystery going on here, especially with the inclusion of the lone man in helf-sillhouette. If I was a betting woman I'd say that blue blue sky's been touched up. But I'm not a betting woman so will say nothing and shut up ;) Anyway, the shadow play and orange tones are really remarkable. Thanks for sharing, and I hope you're enjoying your week.

Into the light! A classic composition John and very well managed light, quite tricky with the shadows and bright sunshine but you have got a good balance between the two. I like the textures of the cobbles under the arch as they lead us into the frame and the lone figure adds a good focal point on the vertical third. Nice job on a very successful shot. Take care Rosemary

an intriguing shot this made so by the magical light and colours but more so by the silhouetted man. Sharpness and light management are perfect in making the shot so effective. Such wonderful warm tones.
Enjoy the day - Brian.

This is an exemple of how to manage the light, great light and atmosphere, the presence of this man is a plus for your very good shot.

Well John, What comes to my mind if I had been on a holiday photo lesson would be Light, silhouette, colour tones and architecture, these have all been brought together perfectly to bring to us the splendid capture of this scene, well done, love it, Cheers Iain. Ps, Thanks for your kind comments on my last posts, and advise on Tripod.

I recognize the area from earlier uploads. It's a treasure-trove for a photographer, provided the difficult light can be handled. You have done very well. Although the central wall is very bright, it's not overexposed as far as I can tell. Also the man has not become sooty black. Besides, it's a charming street and a nice composition.

like the framing here by the walking man through the passage in-between the houses...nice play of light & shadow effect here with nice reddish tone...also like the textures of the decayed wall around the windows...good chosen POV...
good DOF controlled with nice light management...nice color contrast & sharpness also...

Hello John,a lovely bit of photography here, the use of the arch to frame the man striding into the scene,as well as the really good perspective that has been gained.
Your light management skills have payed off as well, there is much detail to be seen throughout.
Best regards Les.

Very nice exposure what can be a nightmare to get right. There is plenty of detail on the shadows and the highlights are not burnt. Very intersting cobled stone path in the middle of the street, never seen the same thing before.
On the negative note, I can think of better subjects walking down that street!
