Above Port de Sóller Photo

Photographer’s Note

In Mallorca, to provide an effective defense from pirates, the cities were originally established a few km inland from the coast and then connected to lightly developed ports.

Port de Sóller is the port village for the town of Sóller, about 2 km inland. This photo was taken from a view point along the road descending from the mountains in northwest Mallorca down to the port.

Ah! you have been to Mallorca! just few (so to speak) miles west of the place where I live (Sardinia). It's one of the destinations I'd like to reach with my (small) sailing boat, if I'll find a friend who will be able to come with me and help me in steering the boat by night...

I've never seen pictures of Port del Soller which looks quite nice to spend a holidays and find a secure berth for the boat..., the pov and composition are quite good - I love high pov from where to get an eagle's eye view - and it's both fine and informative showing the entrance of the harbour, the surrounding of the town and the lighthouse. The green of the vegetation is particulary intense and makes a good chromatic contrast with the light blue of the sea. I guess that you didn't have a polarizer filter (being a compact camera) and that would have helped to reduce the haze over the town and the promontory to the left.
I'll look forward for further pics from Mallorca if you feel like posting them...

High pov was a great choice and it was quite privileged! The composition with the natural elements and the urban scenes is very attractive!
Sharpness, exposure and natural colors are very good!
