The Olympics come to Town Photo

Photographer’s Note

A mere week after the closing ceremony of the Olympics, it is already possible to see the main athletes in action in your town in certain places - so you can cheer them on their accomplishments.

For instance, yesterday's meeting in Zurich, and next week's event in Brussels.

So if you were not able to make the trip to Beijing to see them there - they are now coming right to your place...

(The shot, chosen to illustrate the point, was taken during an urban half-marathon last March)

Hi Daniel,
Beautiful action shot of this runner in full flight.
I like your composition very much, the people clapping this man really adds to the thrill of seeing these amazing athletes in the flesh.
The way you have managed the contrast between full sun and shadow is really well done.
Good shot.

Hi Daniel.
Well captured with the athlete entering the scene on the far left, his yellow jersey lit up by the sun and matching the yellow line along the side of the road. I like the ironic juxtaposition - with this hard-running fellow being politely clapped by the Coke-drinking and cafe latte-sipping set. Excellent exposure and appropriate frame.

You caught the decisive moment, Daniel--the runner has both feet off the ground, he is in the sunlight but set against a dark building, and he's entering the frame. He looks so fit and the audience so sedentary and lazy by comparison...Regards, Ken.
