Photographer’s Note

Today I am presenting my point of view of an image that Charo has already submitted a few months ago and I think one of the statues or monuments more endearing and more that there are symbolic throughout Asturias, La Madre del Emigrante.

I liked Black and White put it in because it seemed to reflect melancholy and sadness, the sadness of a mother who fired up a child to your destination.

It is the first piece of modern sculpture installed in a public area of the city. As will happen later, its formal transgression lead a lively discussion among Gijonesa this time. It is now one of the most characteristic sculptures of the city with a strong symbolic meaning. Located on the Paseo del Rinconín, Mother facing the sea, into which reaches degarradoramente one of his hands. Muriedas tried to translate it so suffering asturianas Gijonesa and saw that their children had left in search of a better life.
