Castillo Colomares (Colomares Castle) a truly unusual monument - this masterpiece of Byzantine, Roman, Gothic and Mudejar architecture pays homage to Christopher Columbus and his discovery of America. Full of steps, arches, colonnades and spires, it stands on the hill that runs between Benalmadena Pueblo and the coastal zone of the Costa del Sol, Spain.

Wow! This is some sculptured monument!
Every part of it is decorated with intricate tracery and 3D modelling.
It reminds me of some baroque churches that I have visited - a bit over the top for me but still beautifully captured, with sharp details and rich colours.
I like how you have linked movement across the frame with the greenery in the f/g and the b/g.
Have a great day,

Hello brian, superb shot from Colomares. After seeing your photos, I have also wanted to see this caastle. And also interesting buddhist stupa and butterfly house that is nearby. I went to Benalmadena by train, but it was to far to go in foot and the buses were scarse. I was afraid that I could not go back to Malaga. So i went with a cable car and it was also IK. The views of the bay were breath taking and I observed the birds of prey show. I had a falcon on my head! So it was in the end not bad.

A terrific presentation of this intricate castle architecture. The dark bluish clouds are a perfect backdrop for accentuating the greens of the vegetation and the oranges of the stonework.

The designer(s) of this monument certainly had a very vivid imagination! Totally over the top, but you really have to admire it. That darkened sky makes a superb backcloth for the ochre tones of the architecture and I like the inclusion of the odd touches of green. The rendering of the detail is top class.

excellent building which is very nicely demonstrated in your pic. I like the colours of the buidling under the darkish colours of the sky.

Une construction un peu folle qui rend hommage à Christophe Colomb et que la lumière du moment met bien en valeur. Bon POV.

A castle from a fairy tale!
Its reddish colour makes it stand out wonderfully against that clouded sky. Beautiful tropical vegetation adding more colour and much charm.
That plant/tree on the right looks realy special and has big flowers.
Best regards, Paul

Learning about the world through photography is what this place is all about, and boy am I pleased to learn about this place. I must wonder though, being an architecture geek, and with all the books on the subject I have read, how in heck have I never heard of this place. It's an incredible detailed work of construction, eith every inch of it being a total fascination. The angle you chose shows do much invest, with all the pinnacles breaking the skyline so well. I always love red buildings on blue sky, so amazing that you got such great shad of blue in this cloudy and moody sky. I love this place now, and I only learned of it five minutes ago. Beautiful, thanks for sharing.
All the best

What a weird castle! The architecture is original, with a lot of sculptures (maybe too much). As usual, the colors are nice.

Wonderful architecture, this style reminds me the Indian heritage and their impressive elegant sculptures on the temples. I have never seen this castle on the photos. Good presentation of Malaga.
