Christopher Columbus , Cristoforo Colombo, Cristóbal Colón (1451-1506), the Italian sailor, traveller, well-known as discoverer of America. In years 1492-1493 (being in service of king of Spain) he organized first expedition in search to Indias the new, shorter sea road. He sailed out 3 VIII from Palos. 12 X Columbus ships: Santa Maria, Niña and Pinta swam to the island which was recognise for part of Indias and San was named Salvador (at present Watling, in archipelago Bahama). He uncovered Cuba then and Haiti.

In September 1493 he Columbus left from Cadiz from second, more considerably numerous expedition m.in. during which was uncovered Small Antilles, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Dominika (durable to 1496). During third expedition (1498-1500) Columbus uncovered the island Trinidad and the coast of Venezuela, during fourth meanwhile (1502-1504) the peninsula swam round the Jukatan and he reached to Panamanian Pass.

Cheated by one's protectors and ill he died in oblivion and the poverty, convinced to end of life, that he reached to Indias. It his name was named was : republic South American Colombia (to which he never reached), province in Canada British Colombia, river Colombia in USA.
