Photographer's Note

The Courtyard of the Arrayanes in the Alhambra in Granada, has been named in various ways over time. The actual name (like the Patio of the Myrtles) is due to the clumps of arrayanes (or myrtle), whose bright green color contrasts with the white marble floor of the courtyard, surrounding the central pond. It was also called Patio Pond or Pool, precisely because of this pool, 34 meters by 7.10 meters, which divides the court lengthwise and water is supplied by two marble basins at each end. On both sides of the courtyard are two craft rooms and in the shorter sides rise porticos, supported by columns with cubic capitals of seven semicircular arches decorated with openwork diamonds and inscriptions of praise to God. The central arch is larger than the other six, and has solid spandrels decorated with stalactite ataurique and capitals.

The gallery is in its extreme south cupboards with shelves of stalactite and the following legend: "The support and protection of God and a glorious victory for our Lord Abu Abd 'Allah, Amir of the Muslims. " The vast majority of entries appear in this court are praises to God or the emir.

El Patio de los Arrayanes, de la Alhambra de Granada, se ha llamado de diversas formas a lo largo del tiempo. La actual denominación (al igual que la de Patio de los Mirtos) se debe a los macizos de arrayanes (o mirtos) cuyo color verde vivo contrasta con el piso de mármol blanco del patio, y que rodean al estanque central. También se le llamó Patio del Estanque o de la Alberca, precisamente por este estanque, de 34 metros por 7,10 metros, que divide el patio longitudinalmente y se abastece de agua gracias a dos pilas de mármol situadas en cada extremo. A ambos lados del patio se encuentran dos naves de aposentos y, en los lados menores, se levantan unos pórticos, sostenidos por columnas de capiteles cúbicos, de siete arcos semicirculares adornados con rombos calados e inscripciones de alabanza a Dios. El arco central es mayor que los otros seis, y presenta enjutas macizas con decoración de ataurique y capiteles de mocárabes.

La galería sur tiene en sus extremos alacenas con vasares de mocárabes y la siguiente leyenda: «La ayuda y la protección de Dios y una victoria espléndida para nuestro Señor Abu Abd' Allah, emir de los musulmanes». La inmensa mayoría de las inscripciones que aparecen en este patio son loas a Dios o al emir.

J'ai eu le grand plaisir de visiter cet endroit. C'était à l'époque de l'argentique et les films coutaient cher à l'époque, j'ai donc du me limiter un peu dans mes ambitions photographiques car j'aurais pu y passer quelques jours tellement c'est beau.

The gold-fish in this pond are most vivid addition on the whole - I remember the place (from 6/1998), always vibrant with tourist, but the palace has it's own many charming corners, both indoor's and outdoor's.
Good DOF and clarty achieved, reflection of the known verandas.
Pleasent memories, nice to see.

The palace is beautifully reflected on the entire length of the water to the fountain on the foreground.
A very beautiful detail are the vivid red fish in the darker part of the water.

je reviens sur cette photo que j'avais déjà regardé et je vois de blles réflections de ce palais célèbre, une petite fontaine au premier plan (coupé dommage) mais pas grave, cela n'enlèbve pas le charme de cette photo

beautiful presentation from this amazing place. I like very much the little fountain in the foreground plus the great reflection which you have captured in the water pond. You were lucky not to have too many people I could not take a photo there without crowds of tourists. Great processing which well emphasized the details.

preciosa instantánea de este rincón de La Alhambra, donde podemos admirar su formidable arquitectura, sus patios y fuentes, en una imagen con una gran luz y colores vivos, que has realizado mediante un encuadre vertical muy eficiente, porque deja un pequeño espacio al cielo azul, añadiendo así un bonito contraste.
La gente proporciona vitalidad a la composición, y por supuesto, me gustan esos reflejos sobre el estanque, que le dan un toque más romántico.

PD: qué lástima el mal tiempo en La Adrada, os habrá limitado mucho un buen disfrute de la Samana santa. En Andorra también hemos tenido algo de lluvia y poco sol. Pero ya vendrá el verano.
