Photographer’s Note

Alminar means "minaret", from Arab "al-manār"... Cordoba's "Mezquita", the big mosque, was originally a church, then, after the Muslim conquest the building was confiscated for use as a mosque and greatly expanded until it became the second-largest mosque in the world. After the Spanish Reconquista, in 1236, it was returned to its original use as a church. Today it houses the main church of the diocese of Cordoba in Spain....so, this tower which today houses the bells of the church, used to be the minaret of the big mosque.
Same happened to the "Giralda" tower in Sevilla, as you can see in a pic I posted a couple of days ago.

La torre del Alminar a Cordoba è quella che, fino alla Reconquista spagnola, fu il minareto della moschea. Oggi ospita le campane della cattedrale della città. Si tratta di un'opera straordinaria, esempio di architettura islamica, gotica e rinascimentale insieme. La conversione da moschea a cattedrale risale al 1236.
