Hello friends and colleagues, today I offer another picture (this time, one of the side gallery sunlit through the arches and shutters) of an iconic landmark of my city, The Cloisters of Santo Domingo (a former convent) , hope you like it, then some letters about its history.
The cloisters of Santo Domingo is around cloisters of s. XIII in Jerez de la Frontera (Andalusia, Spain).
Originally linked to the Church of Santo Domingo, became civilian use after the confiscation of Mendizabal in the s. Century, and therefore is managed independently and autonomously.
It is one of the jewels of Gothic architecture in Andalusia and a space for cultural use of first order in Jerez.
The origin of the cloisters dating from the Almohad fortification extramural that King Alfonso X gave the order dominica in 1264. The Dominicans were expanding the resort and in 1436 they began the work of the cloisters, concluding in 1595. The confiscation of Mendizabal in 1835 led to the expulsion of the Dominicans and the civilian sale of that space. In 1983 he became municipal property.
The Cloisters are defined with the classic square structure with a central courtyard distributor dependencies.
The cloister stands on two floors and hallways are covered by cross vaults simple. The upper floor is simpler, with recessed arches own XVI century.
Cloister High: s. XVIII.
Bedroom Under: s. XVI long narrow room where the monks slept.
Refectory: Renaissance vaulted room. Had more than three hundred monks.
Ribadeneira Diego Oratory of S. XVI. The gate dates from 1572.
Home Almohad: visible only remaining primitive Islamic building donated by Alfonso X the Dominicans after the conquest of the city in 1264.
Confessional: oldest monastery confessionals.
Thank Gate and Chapter House.
For damages in structure, the building remained closed for rehabilitation of 1999-2012.
This restaurant has not been without criticism. During the works there have been findings, such as the appearance of some 5,000 vessels which are being cataloged by staff of the Archaeological Museum.
The Faculty of Nursing is still in rehabilitation.

An excellent shot of its type. You have exposed this very well, and squared up the verticals beautifully. I like the pattern of columns and their shadows, and lovely arches overhead. A fine photo of this elegant cloister.

Wow. And wow again, this is just beautiful. The view down this cloister is really rich and beautiful with such superb light. The detail of the tracery in the windows is really superb and has created such fine shadows across the floor. You captured this at precisely the perfect time to have the bright heavenly light flooding in and creating the brilliant contrast of shadow on the corridors floor. Really nicely done.
All the best

Absolute clarity and wonderful control over the exposure. Even with metering mode as pattern, you provide the professional feeling of spot mode. The focus is awesome and the architecture is bathing well in the clear light.
A flawless shot......pleasing to the eyes.
Straight to my favorites.

A great way to follow up from the last picture with a strong arch that dominates the image. For added appeal and impact, you have captured this at an ideal time that strengthens the play of shadow and light. This generally creates a lot of difficulty in finding the proper exposure, but it appears you have found a nice balance again, keeping the highlights in check while showing plenty of detail in the shadows. I bet this would also look great in black & white, for even more of a graphic punch. No matter, the color here is a pleasing and the patterns are an eye-catcher. Beautifully executed! Hope you're having a nice weekend.
Friendly wishes from Arizona,

Nice repetition of the vaulted arches & their support columns with good sharpness and available light. The Moorish influence is evident and the warm color tones work well here. Good sidelight to add complimentary shadows. Excellent sharpness amd light contrasts. Good reflections in the shiny floor. Tfs!

What a fine shot!
You have judges the composition exactly so that we have a leading wall and a feature wall. The details are exquisite, whilst the highlights on the shiny floor add an extra degree of interest.
The repeating arches, moving from shadow into sunlight assist in propelling the viewers from f/g to b/g.
My warm regards,
ikeharel (43975) 2013-10-07 1:36
Light and shadows made this arcade an interesting object to photo. The outside light gave enough brightness to view the high archs and the fine smooth floor in most immaculate clarity.
Well done, no backlight in excess.
eldancer1 (20772) 2013-10-07 9:22

Hola dear Angel
Such a beautiful city Cadiz, you are truly blessed to live there. The next time I see Spain, Cadiz will be on the itinerary.
SUperb photo of these cloisters, beautiful symmetry and a haunting play of light and shade. The reflections on the floor are the cherry on the cake, as are the earthy tones of the stonework. An exquisite photo, congratulations.

what a beautiful place! I think you've photographed it at the best hour, when the bright light creates wonderful, graphical shadows and a most agreeable atmosphere. The architecture is very elegant and, through your composition, you have captured one of its most graphical aspects. There's excellent depth and sharpness and your light management was very apt. I love the play of patterns, light, shadows, reflections and heart-warming tones. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great evening,
