Hello friends and colleagues, today I present this composition I picked up while walking in the coastal town of Chipiona, in the Spanish province where I live, Cadiz. The title I was inspired by the novel by Ernest Hemingway, "The Old Man and the Sea". Hope you like. Then a few letters on the town of Chipiona.

Chipiona is a Spanish municipality located in the province of Cádiz, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, and a village of the municipality. The villa is situated at a height of 4 meters and 54 km from Cádiz, the provincial capital. It is located between the towns of Rota and Sanlucar de Barrameda.

In ancient times, as Strabo and Pomponius Mela, there was a lighthouse at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River, built at the request of the consul Quintus Servilius Caepion and therefore received the Caepionis of Turris. Traditionally seen in the name of this lighthouse where the name of Chipiona. Also in the area stood the Ars Gerionis, it was the tomb of Geryon and were on the end of a narrow that jutted out into the sea. Probably was located in what is now a reef known as the Stone of Salmedina, low or just Salmedina Salmedina. In all this there is no other evidence that the literature and occurred Roman archaeological finds dating back to the second century. C.

Already in 1251, Chipiona was conquered by King Ferdinand III, turning to reconquer definitely in 1264 by his son Alfonso X the Wise. In 1297, King Ferdinand IV granted the Lordship Guzmán el Bueno Sanlucar, Chipiona was part of it and, according to tradition, began construction of the castle. When marrying Isabel Perez de Guzman, one of the daughters of the First Lord of Sanlucar, with Ponce de Léon Fernan, dowry was in Rota and Chipiona, becoming independent both of the Lordship of Sanlucar in 1303 and joining the family possessions Ponce de Leon , germ Arcos House.
In 1755 Chipiona was severely punished by the tsunami that resulted in the Portuguese Atlantic coast of Andalusia and the Lisbon Earthquake.
El Faro de Chipiona is the most emblematic monument of the town. It is the largest lighthouse in Spain, 3rd in Europe and 5th in the world. Its height from the ground is about 69 meters, dates from 1867 and is located in the Punta del Perro. It was built to prevent the ships have problems accessing the Guadalquivir River and collide with the Stone Salmedina.
In the early 90's was held in the Marina building, located near the mouth of the Guadalquivir, in 2008 underwent a process of enlargement.

The economy consists primarily of four distinct sectors:

Tourism: is a major tourist center due to its beaches rich in iodine. In its extensive coastline beaches are located Rule, Shrimp, of Cuba, of Tres Piedras, Whale, Cross the Sea of Las Canteras de Montijo, Michelle. Before, some had the Blue Flag. Tourism is mainly international, mostly from nearby provinces like Seville, but now because of the large investment in the resort of Costa Ballena is starting to receive national tourism.

Floriculture: is Europe's largest producer in this sector, with export important fact, including the world of the flower market in the Netherlands. The flower is the carnation crop is exported by Riveraflor, owner of the largest cut flower monopoly in Spain.

Fishing: is the oldest sector and that, along with agriculture, mainly lived in ancient times, which are evidence of fishing corrals.

The most original vintage is made in a province with great wine culture, takes place in Chipiona to develop its muscatel raisins, which has already achieved several international awards. The grape, muscatel Chipiona, once that is collected is spread on an area of the resort to dry in the sun and thus acquire greater sugar. The process, which is done by hand, is very time consuming because the grapes must turn them over to dry all alike. Once the grapes have purchased the alcohol takes appropriate wineries to develop Muscat raisins.
