Chiclana de la Frontera is a Spanish village in the province of Cadiz, in the Autonomous Community of Andalusia. It belongs to the Association of Municipalities of the Bay of Cadiz, near Cadiz, Jerez de la Frontera, San Fernando, El Puerto de Santa Maria, Puerto Real and Rota. Also part of the metropolitan area of the Bay of Cadiz, Jerez, polynuclear urban agglomeration which is part next to Cadiz, Jerez de la Frontera, San Fernando, El Puerto de Santa Maria and Puerto Real, the third metropolitan area Andalusia, behind Sevilla and Malaga, and the twelfth of Spain. At 20 kilometers from the capital of the province, Cadiz, north the city is bordered by the municipalities of San Fernando and Puerto Real, on the south coast to Conil de la Frontera and land borders Medina Sidonia and a small part of Vejer de la Frontera.

The human presence dates back to Paleolithic Chiclana. During antiquity, the Phoenicians settled near the town, particularly in the small island of Sancti Petri, founding the Temple of Hercules Gaditano. Just as in the field, found in 2006 in Castle Hill, in the heart of the city, behind the church of San Juan Bautista. The foundation of the current Chiclana occurred in 1303 when King Ferdinand IV of Castile chiclaneras gave land to the House of Medina Sidonia. During the eighteenth century stands the town of the locality. During the War of Spanish Independence came the Battle of Chiclana between French and Anglo-Spanish allies. Today Chiclana economy depends on a modern industry and tourism, especially from the beaches and golf courses settled mainly in the Novo Sancti Petri, urbanization has the largest number of hotel beds in the province of Cadiz and the Costa de la Luz.

The origin dates back to Paleolithic Chiclana, as shown by historians such as excavations or Sunday Bohorquez. Off the coast of Chiclana lies the island of Sancti Petri, where it is likely that the Phoenicians built the Temple of Hercules Gaditano, on whose ruins were subsequently raised Castle Sancti Petri. The island was visited in 1930 by Manuel de Falla, seeking inspiration in it for the music of his scenic cantata Atlantida and classic authors such as Strabo indicate the existence in the area of the famous Temple of Hercules Gaditano without being able to accurately determine its location.

Excavations have revealed a Phoenician settlement in the city center. Archaeological finds from Cerro del Castillo, Chiclana show that already had settlements in the Phoenician era, providing new data on the Phoenician colonization in the Bay of Cadiz and demonstrating that the current town of Chiclana and was a major Phoenician city thanks its fortifications built in the first moment of the Phoenician colonization, assuming a significant advance for understanding the territorial organization of that historic moment and a source of data for the current archaeological and historical research. Therefore, the archaeological find of the Castle is of great importance amongst those on the Phoenician Andalusia and Spain. Have been found many fragments of pottery, hand made and richly decorated, and various structures and pavements murarias confirming the existence of a fortified town of Phoenician origin, showing occupancy levels ranging from the Late Bronze Age to the Medieval era including signs of a strong Roman and Phoenician presence. The study confirmed that the Cerro del Castillo and therefore, the town of Chiclana, was occupied from the Late Bronze Age, in the eighth century BC Therefore, after the recent archaeological discoveries found in the center of the city in 2006, we can say that Chiclana is part of the network of cities trimilenarias, along with Cadiz, Seville and Malaga founded by the Phoenicians.
Blow Phoenicians, Carthaginians and Romans found in Chiclana are in the Archaeological Museum of Cádiz

From a geographically and culturally, the city belongs to the Lower Andalusia. Situated on the Costa de la Luz and the call Wine Route. Bathed by the Atlantic waters.
