Photographer’s Note

Bled must be one of the prettiest places I've ever seen. The little valley surrounded by mountains. The lake and of course the island, so special because its the only one in Slovenia. The castle can be seen on the distant cliffs of the lake. This was taken just before sunrise. A .3 ND grad filter was also used.

Hey Ryan,

A great classic shot of Bled, well composed. I mean, it`s a shot taken a thousand times before, but you`ve managed to make it special, because of the specific conditions you have had (and your skill obviously). Beautiful colors, details, clarity, sharpness etc etc. In short - blatantly perfect PP work.

Hi Ryan, I like this image a lot. Good composition, with the castle well placed the low horizon showing all the variation in the sky colours and light. The light mist and snow on the hills are the icing on the cake. Cheers, Steve

Hi Ryan!
Yes, it's the only lake in Slovenia with an island in it
(an island with a church - very popular spot for weddings).
This has to be one of the best images of the place (and
believe me, I've seen a lot of them!). And, if anyone
comes to that lake, please don't leave without trying
one of local specialities, a cake called 'kremsnita'
(pronounced: khraem-shnee-tah) - the one you get here
in one of them restaurants by the lake is the best one
in the whole of Slovenia!

Like a magical fairy tale dream indeed. The pinky clouds over the snowy mountains are fantastic and there is a wonderful softness to the shot. The whole image breathes tranquility.

Of course you present good light, that's what you always do, so i have nothing to complain about this one. Details, light, colour, mood, it's all there....and most of all dedication to get up that early...bravo.
Thought about a lower framing (seems you can afford to loose some of the sky), more from the lake hoping for more reflection?

you have been so close to my home..45 min to drive from there :)
next time we go for a coffee..
you got a beautiful colour bouquet here and an excellent definition. Knowing this place I have to say that it´s hard to see here that the church is situated on an island. To see the full beauty it´s necessary to get a higher POV on the surrounding hills.
About Bled it´s also remarkable that there is a small but high class university, they do also summer courses (a pity not in photography) :)

Well, Ryan, I think you've found the ideal way to photograph this beautiful spot. A little light on the tower so it stands out from the mountain behind...just enough light on the mountains so the snow is clearly visible...a great sky to add beautiful color...a glassy, misty smoothness to the lake itself. I think this is the best Bled image I`ve seen here at TE.It`s a perfect exposure and the composition is well balanced with the small stripe of water,the fog,the church,out of the center,the remaining snow at the mountans in the distance and the wonderful sky with these pink tones at the clouds.

Hi Ryan:

I love these colors--the pink and blue of the sky, such a signature capture for you. I respectfully disagree with Henk on the lake vs. sky--the lake would be fairly boring, but this sky is incredible. You were right to capture as much sky as possible, in my humble opinion. I'd like to see the higher up view you mentioned to Chris (brandstaetter), as he's correct in pointing out that you can't tell that it's an island. But my, this is a lovely shot all around with that soft pre-sunrise light.

I've already seen some pictures of this wonderful fairy-tale-like spot and it really deserves all of them! As usual, with excellent quality you have photographed it as well and it's just fantastic, with superb colors, pov, composition, sharpness and management of light! Impossible not to enjoy it, to be looking at it for a few minutes!

The fog at the surface of the lake softens the spirit of the whole image and provides a great contrast to the warming sky.

So beautiful and perfectly composed, and the title is just said it all. A fairytale like place. I'm just waiting for the prince and Princess to row across this pristine lake. The light and colors are perfectly saturated and contrast. Congratulations.

Extremely good picture of this almost fantasy-land scene. The red colour in the clouds and the sharpness of the mountains in the background really make this one stand out. Terrific clarity, and it seems a lovely bit of light on the tower. The water looks almost like ice. A very good photo of what is obviously a wonderful place. The ND filter has been well used here.
