Thanks god that in historic towns is not possible, but also not permitted, to build big shopping centers like they are in peripherya so the life runs like it allways was... shopping in the little stores, where everybody knows your name... the only change are the plastic bags.
Also here I liked this colour conversion with extra strong contrasts to bring out different textures of this old town.
For some time I'll post pictures to show you my little piece of Earth - the Slovenian Coast. Maybee some of you will find it attractive enough to come here ;)
I wish you a very nice week end!
This is the eleventh picture of my TRAVELOGUE: around Slovenian Coast... Hope you'll enjoy the trip. In the workshop of my previous post you'll find the MAP: of the entire Coast so you'd be able to follow me.

Wonderful image! The tones, lighting and composition here are all really good! The person provides just the right amount of perspective and reality to the image without taking away the beautiful old historical feeling. Since I already wanted to come to Slovenia - this has definitely pushed my interest even more!
delnaja (2056) 2006-08-11 8:21
superb is the first word that came to my mind...
The tones are well choosen and the light on the rainy ground is beautiful. Great textures and mood also.
pasternak (15185) 2006-08-11 8:45
What a wonderful picture! I like the curve of the street, the wet pavement, your sepia fits the image fantastically, and the presence of the figure with umbrella makes this photo a real masterpiece.
neslihan (181) 2006-08-11 8:45
ı liked photo.
and composition.... perfect.
Kirych (2707) 2006-08-11 8:55
Wonderful composition with lonely woman. Beautiful sepia and texture.
ktanska (29265) 2006-08-11 9:01
You like squares too! I think this is better than the previous rain shot. The wet street reflects nicely and the street leads the eye to woman and umbrella.

Pot ulice vzbuja radovednost kaj je zadaj.
Razpadajoči ometi dajejo starinsko patino sliki, prav tako sephia filter.Odlična.
Lep vikend elim!

"here comes the rain again" ... such a great moody shot. I really like the atmosphere of these old houses, the small street and the single person with the umbrella. A beautiful composition.
The scenery reminds me to Italy where my parents live in the south.
Here I like the b+w.

Hi Tomy, e ena i serije deevnih in melanholičnih slik. Tusi ta je dobr , ima svoj " arm" in pridih preteklosti.
ben4321 (9875) 2006-08-11 9:50
This is a fantastic shot Tommi.
The composition is excellent and the woman with the umbrella provides a great focal point.
What makes this really outstanding is the fact that you shot it in the rain; the wet has brought out the texture in the walls and pavement and has given some great reflections.
I would have preferred this as a straight black and white conversion rather than this muddy brown sepia treatment that you've given it, but that's just my personal taste.
markstaples (15670) 2006-08-11 9:53
This is a super shot, well taken and well exposed, great contrasting tones, the sepia treatment certainly adds to the mood. Well framed and composed too, the umbrella carrier is ideally placed. Very well done.
nwoehnl (122) 2006-08-11 9:55
Beautiful shot, Tomi. The splendid sepia treatment gives a finishing touch to what was already a fine photo - the composition with the glance around-the-bend into this old alley on a rainy day makes for a very moody setting, and the person with the umbrella is an essential add to convert a mere view into an actual "scene". Well done.
gp_pl (1394) 2006-08-11 10:08
your picture is absolutely perfect. Composition, POV,colouring...An amazing atmosphere, I feel it here... I'm wet :-) ...
atus (15856) 2006-08-11 10:15
Grazie e buon weekend!

stunning post. just love the ambience,... rain, soggy labyrinth, splendid colors... what else do you need to combine together to have a great shot?

Prelijepo prikazujes ovu malu Izolu. Nisam mislio da tu ima toliko lijepote i cari, ali stvarno znas kako uhvatiti jedinstven trenutak i najbolju atmosferu.

celinaconroy (717) 2006-08-11 12:45
Unfortunately 'progress' often means that these charming delapidated sectors of towns are smartened up and their characters become anaesthetised...but let's hope that this street is left alone. By the way..... this image of the lone shopper is beautfull.
syd1946 (18663) 2006-08-11 12:56
What a wonderful image! The rain creates an amazing atmosphere and the walking woman adds more to this.Texturees on wet pavement and old walls are very well seen!Splendid work!
Have a nice weekend,

good shot, very nice view during the rain - in sepia tone. Good composition and contrast. I like this work.

Interesting photo. Curious effect. I like the perspective and composition. Good work.

Hi Tomi, I don't know how I've missed your work before but I'm pleased to discover it now. A marvellous composition using the perspective of the pavement and the texture created by the rain to full effect. I want to do something similar in Brussels (220 days of rain a year), time permitting). Not so sure about the toning. For me, a nice contrasty straight B&W would have complemented the weather better but it's a matter of personal taste. Excellent. Stephen
peter1892 (1681) 2006-08-11 14:54
Hi Tomi - the location is great, the kind of small, narrow street that still exists in cities across Europe. It's good that major, modern development isn't allowed.
Your timing for this one could not have been better - the reflections off the wet ground are great, and the inclusion of the woman & her umbrella helps to stress the feeling of a wet day. The colour in the image & conversion to this kind of B&W tone is another positive point, well done!
feather (51130) 2006-08-11 16:09
It's surprising what you can come up with in these conditions. It forces you to think creatively and you met the challenge well. The old narrow street calls for the treatment you gave it. The wet flagstones really shine out of the image, and of course the lady with the brollie adds the finishing touch.
devimeuxbe (58557) 2006-08-11 16:09
This a nice work. The rainy atmosphere is well presented. I also like the goldy colors.
designsoul (21492) 2006-08-11 16:17
I know, Tomi, nothing like Slovenian nature and also coastline... being Hungarian but living in Canada, I beat my head against the wall that I haven't yet visited the Slovenian coast, but maybe I shall have the pleasure one day.
This shot is simply gorgeous. You couldn't whet our appetite better. But please be careful: if you keep posting such extraordinary pics, Slovenia will be bombarded by hoards of TrekEarthers! There won't be any such streets any longer ;-) just us with cameras sticking on our eyes.
Wonderful capture, exquisite reflections and the colour conversion to this old type sepia-yellow is gorgeous! BRAVO, Tomi! PS will be back with Smily.
Dragonheart (8414) 2006-08-12 3:36

oochappan (15638) 2006-08-12 20:29
A wet cold chilly scene enhanced by your turn to sepia green, the light reflected on the wet paves in this turning small street with the old facades to place her well in with her umbrella. A moody photo Tomi.
pablominto (53746) 2006-08-13 2:14
A very moody street photograph, packed with interesting details!
Good composition with dynamic lines, excellent lighting gives perspective and a wonderful feeling of depth...
Well done on PP to enhance the mood!

i'm singing in the rain, just singing in the rain...
sad mood, for this interesting picture..
i found the rain always sad...i don't know why...
jinju (14265) 2006-08-14 10:11
thgis s really beautiful work! The mood here is amazing as is the richness of tones here. Youve given this b/w a fantastic tint that is perfect to show the rainy weather. Ideally placed person with an umbrella. Lovely stuff.
john_c (24666) 2006-08-14 12:09
You really nailed this one...The large format is ideal for heightening the impact of the wet pavement. This shot is all about light and texture, with the monochromatic look apropos. The DOF is amazing, and I just love the placement of the person carrying the umbrella. First rate work, Tomi. Your "forced" confinement to your home town is paying us all rich dividends with these shots.
marietom (34609) 2006-08-15 8:37
belle ambiance, cette fois encore. Bravo !

Ti faccio fare conto tondo con i punti (80) solo per adesso credo.. perche la foto è così bella che ne vale almeno 100.. :o)
continui a spendere i tuoi risparmi per pagare le persone che fai posare sotto il diluvio eh??? ..
realimis (820) 2006-08-20 8:46
Amazing picture with nostalgic tones which wake up feelings...
The raining scene, the wet street and the woman walking make an amazing atmosphere!!!

Here I am, in the rainy ones...
I think it is such a beautiful serie. I didn't know which one to open first but deceided for this one. It looks awesome Tomi, for real. The image is very well composed and it shows us that the world is also beautiful in the rain! The tones look great too
neochris (68) 2006-08-27 13:30
Excellent photo! well done. Very graphical, and well captured. It almost looks like a painting. very appealing photo.
vagabondtravels (6511) 2006-08-31 21:25
This is an excellent series! Great tone and use of light. The woman really makes the shot.
Anna-- (7791) 2006-09-03 9:49
I don't feel like reading all the comments, I imagine they will already have told you everything. However... your photo (but also your travelogue) are very interesting. This conversion is very proper for this ancient foreshortening of the city and for to underline the rainy and dark atmosphere too. Besides beautiful scene of "village" daily life
goodwill (4226) 2006-09-24 18:30
Tomi, Sepia has really done the magic here. The shot is so clear and shinning that the idea of B&W almost has faded away from mine mind. The rugged walls, the shinning floor and the lady with the umbrella- a perspective indeed.
Congratulations Tomi for this beauty.
aidil98 (94) 2006-10-09 12:41
Very romantic picture, and sepia is good choice :)Woman with umbrella attach more romantic atmosphere:)
Thanks fro sharing this romantic photo!

Hello Tomi. Rain weather produces an atmosphere particularly good for photographers. The light is reflected on that cobbles and the people appears like shade. In the photo everything is contained, which constitutes a good picture. Very beautifully. Many greetings, Wolfgang.
gbeli (1970) 2007-03-30 13:51
I like your photo very much.
It seems to be from another era.
Krispyt (180) 2007-04-09 12:54
This is the best use of a deep? yellow filter i've seen. Great choice for color conversion! It makes me feel the moist warmth of the limestone and other near-organic rocks that make the buildings. Great catch of the human subject too.
liakos (988) 2007-05-15 16:16
I saw your photo at the first page of trekearth and it really made me impression. The atmosphere is great and the presence of the human makes it more intgresting. Of course the sepia like tones works perfectly.
Mistral (15402) 2007-11-27 13:23
Excellent beautiful image, Tomi!
Love your framing, and PP that gave a great mood to the image!
Framboisilla (5277) 2007-11-27 13:34
The perspective in the square format is excellent and the treatment of colors gives an atmosphere...I like the wet floor !
cherryripe (21033) 2007-11-27 13:54
I've just caught this on the intro page. The composition is brilliant with the eye drawn along the central gutter to the lady who is perfectly positionned. The strong contrasts really bring out the textures of the walls. The sepia creates an excellent atmosphere.
ajayrawat (672) 2012-10-08 8:30
lovely poetic composition, eye being guided from one part of the frame beautifully travelling throught the midlle to lead to the lady with umbrella. very nice. The monotone adds to the mood of the photograph. Very nice details till the end of the street.
livermore (1631) 2012-10-08 8:31
Très beau traitement Sepia pour cette photo.
Le contraste, les pavés mouillés, le sujet en parapluie en arrière plan, donne une ambiance très interessante.
