Photographer’s Note

Lipizzaners are known as the finest riding horses in the world. They are very intelligent and sociable horses, known for their beauty and agility.

When you see them run around in Lipica, the only thing you can do is to stand in silence and admire them. Their walk and their grace reminds you of some fairy tale creatures and in the early morning light, when you watch them run through the meadows, they seem like horse shaped mist that came to this world with one reason only...to be admired and adored.

Interesting thing is that lipizzaners are not white when they are born, but gray, bay or even chestnut in color. The well known 'imperial white' doesn't develop until the horses are between 5 to 10 years old, when their hair loses its pigment (you can see it on the photo).

Although these horses are Slovenian national pride and treasure, they are not bred only in Slovenia, but also in Austria and in the USA as riding and show horses.
