Out of the Fog Photo

Photographer’s Note

I haven't had the opportunity to ask these men what were they doing, where were they diving, but as there is just one very interesting point in the near area, I suppose they were arround the Rex (in Italian, German and Slovene language)

The SS Rex was an Italian ocean liner that was launched in 1931. She held the west bound Blue Riband between 1933 and 1935. In 1938, in a demonstration of U.S. air power, B-17A bombers of the U.S. Army Air Corps intercepted the Rex at sea in a highly publicized event.

She was sunk by British bombers in 1944.

It is featured in the Fellini film Amarcord.

S.S. Rex was also the name of a gambling ship operated by mobster Tony Cornero and anchored off Santa Monica Bay in California from 1938 to 1939

Terrific photo, Miuky. That orange outfit has a great impact in the shot. The other two men seem to be looking at this focal point just as we do. The clarity is excellent. I'm not sure if I like the frame, but the photo is incredibly simple but striking. Really good work.

I think this would have been better if you had included all of the reflection Miuky, and maybe placed the boat higher up in the frame, giving equal weight to both boat and reflection. Although we can't see the horizon, there is the impression of a tilt to the right, although it could be an illusion created by the direction in which the boat is facing.
The bright orange protective clothing of the guy in the middle makes a great contrast with the surrounding greyness, and this undeniably an atmosperic image.
Despite the points I outlined above, I like this one.

una foto interessante con questi uomini che sembrano emergere dal nulla.
Bellissimo il contrasto tra la parte superiore della foto piena di nebbia ed il riflesso del gommone nel mare che ha una definizione perfetta.
