Photographer’s Note

Here we are, welcome to Izola.
What I like most of this little town is the municipality sign that is the dove with the olive branch in his spout... the sign of peace. I'll post it as a WS and in the travelogue you can read the legend about it.
***
Originally an island in the northern Adriatic (hence the name, which comes from the Italian for "island"), it was first settled by the Romans, who built a port at Haliaetum, on Simons Bay, to the southwest of the present city.
During the Middle Ages, it was controlled by the Venetian Republic.
Its economic base was seriously hurt when Trieste (Trst in Slovene) became the premier port in the region and a plague struck in the 16th century.
During the French occupation in the early 19th century, the city walls were torn down and used to fill in the channel that separated the island of Izola from the mainland.

Hope that you like the late afternoon colours of "mandrac" - harbour ;)
Because for some time I won't go nowhere for holidays I'll post pictures to show you my little piece of Earth - the Slovenian Coast. Maybee some of you will find it attractive enough to come here ;)

This is the eighth picture of my TRAVELOGUE: around Slovenian Coast... Hope you'll enjoy the trip. In the workshop of my previous post you'll find the MAP: of the entire Coast so you'd be able to follow me.

Hi Tomi, this looks like a lovely place, you presented & captured it well. Good timing with the nice evening light, and plenty of activity in evidence. Having the boat off to the right side is good as it still allows us to see the town & harbour in the background. A great travelogue, I'm enjoying this series of images!

Very nice photo again, Tomi, such a pleasant scenery that looks even more gorgeous in the special lighting you got. Delightful vivid colors and a good horizontal framing where the small boat included at the foreground right gives an extra interest. Well done.

And we come closer to target with the necessairy info to discover your place. A well framed compo with the small sailboat aside, one churchtower slight outcentered looking over the houses, all in the twilight coloring, very fine detailled sharp. A fine addition in this discovery Tomi.

Zdravo, Tomi.
Lep pozdrav, Aleksandar

Dober Dan Tomi,
well reading your note I know that you have very good reasons to stay close to home and looking at this when home is in such a nice location it is probably not too disappointing not to go away ;-)
Beautiful light and framing here, having the boat on the lower right corner adds value to this photo that is an excellent advertisement for your region. I remember Izola for having been there on an evening, pleasant small streets to walk in and we found a good restaurant on the harbour.
Have a nice day,
Jean-Yves

Ciao Tomi,

Best regards from Belgium.

Beautiful shot Tomi. It seems you arrived just before sunset; the light is beautiful. The tower seems similar to the one in Koper. I bet we will see a closer view in the days to come. I like the inclusion of the little sailing boat too.

Hi Tomi. Now this is a very original and pleasant coat of arms (sign) that this community has! The town surely still has its Venetian characteristics that make it very beautiful. Good time to take the picture; the low sun gives a special glow of warm colours. You live in a wonderful area!

Hi Tomi,
The tones appear to be resonating with soft evening light. The blue and red hues go so well together here and there are subtle but effective reflections. The little sailboat on the right acts as an anchor for the shot, with superb lighting. Very well captured, Tomi. You are doing this city proud.

Hi Tomi
This is an excellent shot with beautiful warm lighting. This has enabled the details to show up nicely. Excellent composition and a nice balancing of elements. The scene looks like a Canaletto painting. Well done.
