Photographer's Note

The Kezmarok castle is one of the so-called municipal castles, built directly inside the town to protect it against its potential enemies. Its construction has been connected with the name Zapolsky - the first written record dates back to 1463. During the centuries several owners have changed in the castle. In 1579 the castle (and against the law also the free royal town with its inhabitants) fell into the hands of the Thököly family. Its four generations have been settling there until 1684. The last owner was Ferdinand Reuber, who in 1702 finally sold the castle to the town Kezmarok. The youngest part of the castle is the baroque chapel built in 1657 - 58. In 1931 the first museum was opened in the entrance tower - nowadays it contains several expositions - exposition of: crafts, history of Kezmarok, town hall equipment, weapons, Kezmarok shooting association, apotheke equipment, Dr. Alexander (one of the first X-ray researchers), a gallery of historical portraits and High Tatras exposition. Chapel and western tower are also a part of the visit.
