Photographer’s Note

Built since 1347, the church comprised only one nave. In 1502-1515, it was widened in Gothic style and counted 3 naves and the present appearance is the work of the constructor Jan BRENGYSZEYN. During its history the church was burnt on several occasions. After more the violent one of the fires in 1788, one built the traditional gate of entry. The neological completion of the tower is from the year 1903 and its author is Fridrich SCHULEK.
In the years 1950, the church undergoes a general restoration by a new travertine tiling, colored coating, painting, stained glasses, loudspeakers and Chemin de Croix. Inside, of the sculptures by Master Paul de Levoča, but also of other fragments of value in Gothic style are remarkable. The furnace bridge principal Holy Nicolas (workshop 1), symbiosis of the Gothic art and baroque, account among the most remarkable monuments of the church.

I noticed the presence of two organ, most monumental being located at the top of the door of entry. The second, smaller (workshop 2) is located on the left principal nave.

Thanks to its dimensions (54,7 m length, width of 34 m and 16 m height), the church Saint Nicolas de Prešov counts among the most beautiful late Gothic monuments of Slovakia.
