Photographer’s Note

Holy Trinity Statue and City Tower.

This shot was taken on Sunday evening about half an hour after sunset…in winter, sun is setting nearly 30 degrees to the south when compared to its summer setting point, which means unless the conditions are absolutely perfect, you can’t get a proper shot on this location at sunset. Knowing this from my previous visits (and failures) I composed this shot about an hour before it was actually taken. Then it was just a waiting game: I spent an hour jumping around to keep myself warm, waiting for the right colour in the sky. Incoming clouds did not allow what I was hoping for: a bit of pink, red, you know…all the glorious colours you get in the sky after the sun had actually set (usually 30-40 minutes after the sunset). I decided to work away anyway, you just never know…though I like the result, it will be another five to six months until the sun will get to the position I want it to be in.

Being at your spot well in advance always pays off: it would be impossible to compose, focus and set the shot in dark and the balance between different light sources lasted only for 10 minutes, which was just enough time to make 8 exposures.

Although the square looks deserted it was actually crowded: 1 minute exposure blurred away all the people.
