Photographer’s Note
Time to present another Slovak city called Nitra. This is city is one of the most oldest central european cities. First settlement in Nitra is dated from the times of Moravia Magna in the 9th century and later this city became the capital of the Great Moravian Empire which spreads from Southern Poland trough Slovakia to Hungary and Slovenia. Czech Kingdom didn´t belong to the Moravia Magna however Czech king was a vasal of this Empire..Moravia Magna is often presented as an unified state of the Western Slavs (nowadays Moravians and Slovaks also Czechs). The Empire vanished after the battle near Breslava (nowadays Bratislava) in the year 906 when the King Mojmir II. was defeated by his own brothers Predslav and Svatopluk II, who betrayed his brother and fought together with the old Hungarians..After this battle Moravia Magna with the Slovak land became a part of the Old Hungarian Kingdom created by the King Stephen I.
On the image you can see renessaince palace in the court of the Nitra´s castle which is seat of Slovakia´s Eminence (cardinal) and it is situated in an ecclesiastical part of the city (also called Upper Town).
The Nitra castle dominates the whole Nitra river valley and can be seen very far from this historical city.
Nitra is also one of the most popular Slovak cities, visited by many tourists and called Ancient Nitra or Old-Time Nitra.
