Photographer’s Note
The town of Komarno in present day Slovak Republic has always had an important military role. Strategically placed on the Danube river, it was heavily fortified, and is still considered the place with the biggest fortification system in Central Europe.
Now, what does this abandoned building have to do with all this? The thing is, it was the dormitory for the Soviet Army officers, when this town (together with its hungarian counterpart Komarom, on the other side of the Danube) was a Warsaw Pact military base. Old austro-hungarian forts around the town still have many signs of the decades of their "service" to the eastern "shock troops" but, unlike this derelict building, carry the burden of ages quite nicely...
(Now I have a picture from Slovakia, too...)
This picture was marginally cropped, saturated and sharpened, as well as filtered with Neat Image.
