Photographer’s Note

South western view of a part of fortress, surronung with river Danube and Vah (some 20 meter on the right is Danube and behind that fortress is Vah). Built in the 16th century for protection against Turkish invaders who did not defeat it ever. At the beginning of 19th century caesar Franz I decided to upgrade it to the Austro-Hungarian monarchy´s strongest fortress. By this, he intended it to be the protection point against Napoleon and potential escape option for his court. It could hold an army of 200 thousand soldiers and even now can.
Currently, it is closed for the public during all year except of Komarno´s day event when anybody can enter and enjoy historical plays etc.
This unique fortress applies to get on the UNESCO list. It would be the 5th item of SLovakia on this list after Banska Stiavnica, Spissky hrad, Vlkolinec and Bardejov.
