From Zurich via Vienna short jump to Bratislava in Slovakia.
The photo shows view to Bratislava Castle from old town.
Bratislava Castle is the main castle of Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.
The massive rectangular castle building with four corner towers stands on a quite isolated rocky hill of the Little Carpathian mountains directly above the Danube river in the middle of the city.
It provides an excellent view of Bratislava, eastern parts of Austria and, when there is good visibility, parts of north-western of Hungary.
The castle building includes 4 towers (one on each corner) and a courtyard with an 80 m deep water well. The biggest tower is the Crown Tower in the south-east from the 13th century, which housed the crown jewels. The outside walls and inside corridors contain fragments of old Gothic and Renaissance construction elements.
The castle, and Bratislava itself, has been inhabited for thousands of years, because it is strategically located in the center of Europe at a passage between the Carpathians and the Alps, at a very important shallow water place used to cross the Danube river, and at an important crossing of central European ancient trade routes running from the Balkans and the Adriatic Sea to the Rhine river and the Baltic Sea, the most important route being the Amber Route (The ancient trade route for the transfer of amber from the Baltic Sea to the Mediterranean Sea).

Bright daylight and colors rendered on the beautiful photo, Miro.
The view from street level upwards to the cstle, show a great contrast of styles: local people live in the old town quarters, while the Royals reside on the palace high above - just like everywhere as hierarchy dictated.
The turrets and church tower prominently rise above.
A fine photojob done.

The buildings are framing well the castle. The point of view is showing the details, the colours of the buildings and of the castle. The good luminosity is enhancing the colours. Have a nice day.

Je trouve ce village très agréable et très photogénique . Le regard suit naturellement le chemin dans l'image ce qui lui donne de la profondeur, les couleurs sont très belles.

Excellent infor note: Amazing architecture of the historic medieval site, the matured colors of the stonework against the pretty blue sky is most enchanting and the imposing castle's position is spot on reaching the sky so proudly. There's a sense of rustic feel in it as if we are brought back in time of yesteryears. The warm light and tones have further enhanced its uniqueness and style and the low pov has greatly accentuated the depth so superbly to greatest effect and how nice to see that it's well preserved. This is an image to be proud off for sure, Awesome work, Congrats

The framework finery adds much soul to this wander around that shows history at its best by a judicious tones balance.
Every building shows signs of wisdom and the castle itself took the best seat for the family portrait in HD depiction!
holmertz (50774) 2013-08-15 8:43
This is a very well composed photo where you show us some fine old buildings with nice colours in the foreground and the impressive castle above. The roofs of the houses and walls of the church create diagonals which place the castle inside a kind of triangle. The colours and light are brilliant.

Interesting balance between shades and lights
Good deep foreground

I've always enjoyed seeing pictures from Eastern Europe, it's not something that us "Westerner's" are completely familiar with just yet...although it has become much more prevalent over the last decade or so. I'm really liking this arrangement with the street leading me right into the heart of the frame with that old wooden, arched door...as if it's waiting to be opened and explore what lies beyond.
Great detail with many textures and shapes to take in here, I'm having a good time scanning over all of the little facets that have been presented. Thanks for sharing this charming little section of town. Have a great day ahead.
Friendly wishes from the States,

Years ago, when I was a poor grad student, I bought a CD at a bargain price featuring the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra. Since then, I have often wondered what Bratislava is like. Thank you for satisfying my curiosity with such a well-executed photo.

I wonder how to upload a photo in 790 x 1184 pixels? Does TE changed the regulation?
Nice to see different type of architectures, good pov to frame it all, nice street view, sunlight and shading add extra effect to the scenery too, distinct photo, good shoot.

you've chosen a very interesting point of view to present the elegant castle and its imposing place over the town. I like very much the use of such rich perspectives and the harmonious assortment of several architectural characteristics that gradually lead to the the background and make us raise our glance to meet the castle. Lighting is excellent and the definition of details, textures and colours is superb. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a great weekend,

this is certainly one country and area that I'd like to see in person. the architecture reminds me alot of the buildings I've seen in Poland.
lots of charm to be seen here, especially with the arched doorway at the end. I like how the scene climbs up the frame too.
bayno (18344) 2013-08-25 8:26

I like your pov of this castle and from the looks of it the buildings in the foreground appears to be old also. Good lighting control and nice details. Well done, tfs.
Royaldevon (37593) 2013-08-25 14:23
You have found a great viewpoint which not only leads towards the waiting doorway but, also shows the buildings rising, like a series of steps, to the old castle, towering above everything. The light and shadows create fine contrasts to the colours and the textures.
This fine exposure is incredibly sharp so that the details are perfectly accessible.
My warm regards,
nikkitta (17066) 2013-08-25 15:17
Love cities of middle Europe like this, stones, towers, red tiled roofs( never been there)Like the POV you chose looking up at the castle on the back while managing to show at the FG the old building of the city
