Shrine of the Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary; Mount Marianske

On a steep hill above the town Levoca stands the temple of light soaring neo-Gothic tower. It leads to the walking (pilgrimage) route, at which the white chapel standing passion.

Mount Marianske Sanctuary appeared on the stage of history in 1247 as a place of pilgrimage of thanksgiving Levoèa citizens - took refuge in a nearby fortified settlement before the Mongol invasion. Marian devotion developed Franciscans. In 1470. established church, from which the today miraculous statue of Mary. Over time Mount Marianske became famous in Europe with the apparitions of the Virgin Mary, becoming the most popular Slovak pilgrimage.
In 1914, on the site of the old church was erected a magnificent neo-Gothic temple of the great altar. It included a wonderful figure in golden robes and royal crown. In 1984. the church was elevated to the rank of minor basilica.

July 3, 1995, John Paul II celebrated Mass there for 650,000 faithful.

when I look at the weather today I can believe winter is approaching... A wonderful winter scene, beautiful church, the snow cover on the bare trees creates a great atmosphere...

Hello Jozef,
You have moved onto winter quite soon. Fortunately, it's still mild here in France. I like your shot from way back in January. The yellow church stands out nicely in this beautiful winter scene, and its central placement between the rows of trees makes it a very appealing shot. Nicely composed image, you have really caught the winter conditions here.

czy juz tesknisz za zima? Oh, ja jeszcze nie mimo ze w Texsasie to zadna zima, ale zdjecie Twoje jest atrakcyjne i bardzo ladnie ujete. Slicznie zima ozdobila ten kosciol i drzewa. Zawsze kojarzy mi sie ze swietami Bozego Narodzenia. Piekna fotografia. Bardzo mi sie podoba. Brawo!

Czesc,
zima jeszcze przed nami ale tutaj ladna zapowiedz. Piekne sanktuarium a zwlaszcza portal i cala fasada od strony wejscia. Dobra notka i jakosc zdjecia.
