Photographer’s Note

I am not sure if you've heard about a big calamity in the slovakian highest mountains and at the same time probably the most famous slovakian national park High Tatras.
Simply said there was a very strong cyclone (windstorm) in the november 2004 which caused that cca 1/4 (12 000 hectars - mainly in so called zones C, which are zones with the lowest level of protection in the national park) of all woodlands in the High Tatras fell down.
It was a national tragedy since the High Tatras are for many people symbol of Slovakia.

It is important to say that the majority of fallen trees were not original species, they were planted by man.. In comparison only 2% of natural forests (so called zones A - zones with the highest level of
protection) fell during the cyclone.
I think this is a quite a big proof that nature knows more than we know.. Just let the trees be, let it
on the nature...

Im sorry for this sad picture for this nice morning, so at least some positive words at the end :)
The High Tatras are still very attractive for tourists and moreover: after the calamity many new panorama views on Tatra mountains - by now unknown - are available.. :)
