...another monument from Banska Stiavnica...

The New Castle - a national cultural monument - is a six-floor Renaissance building with four bastions (1564-1571). Originally it served as a watch tower in the anti- Turkish wars. Because of its dominant position, it was also used as the town's live clock (exact time was announced every quarter of an hour on a trumpet).

Up on a hill, overlooking the town, the castle was defensively in a brilliant strategic position.

This same position now provides you with a beautiful view of the historic town and the surrounding area.

Today, the castle houses a very interesting exposition about the Habsburg - Turkish wars.
