Manastir je posvećen svetim arhanđelima Mihailu i Gavrilu, a kapela Presvetoj Bogorodici. Nalazi se u selu Kaona u Posavotamnavi.
Manastirska crkva je najstarija crkva u okolini podignuta još u vreme Nemanjića. O nastanku manastira Kaona postoji više predanja, po jednom, crkva potiče iz vremena Nemanjića. Drugo predanje postanak vezuje za za Ikoniju, sestru Miloša Obilića. Kaže se da je Ikonija sagradila ovu crkvu, a druga sestra Miloševa, Vida, neki manastir u Vidojevici.
U pisanim dokumentima crkva se pominje prvi put 1548. godine. Da je nastavila a živi i po dolasku Turaka na ovo područje svedoče i kasniji popisi u kojima se pominje ova crkva i sveštenoslužitelji u njoj. U periodu Drugog austro-turskog rata 1717-1719. godine u Kaonu je donet i jedan osmoglasnik, koji govori o teškom stanju naših naroda i naših crkava pod Turcima. Osmoglasnik je iz 1693. godine, štampao ga je u Lvovu Simeon tipograf. Poklonio ga je srpskom manastiru Ravanica, odakle je donet u Kaonu.
Iguman Grigorije obnovio je 1756. godine crkvu, obnova je bila većih razmera i trajala je nekoliko godina tako da je crkva živopisana tek 1766. godine. Živopis je radio srbijanski slikar Teodor Stefanov Gologlavac. Crkva je tokom Prvog srpskog ustanka bila opljačkana i zapaljena, tako da su 1830. godine urađene nove dveri. Tokom Prvog srpskog ustanka u manastiru Kaona se nalazila ustanička bolnica, a u samoj crkvi magacin i barutana. Po završetku ustanka, krajem 1815. godine, po naređenju Marka Štitarca u ovom manastiru je otrovan učesnik oba ustanka, prota Nikola Smiljanić. Stanje manastira je u ovom periodu bilo dosta loše, u jednom aktu iz 1836. godine kaže se da je manastirska crkva sagrađena od kamena, da ima jedno zvono, da je u lošem stanju. Manastirskom crkvom se služilo nekoliko okolnih sela i parohija, pa su istovremeno služili i sveštenici i kaluđeri. Ali vremenom se monaški život ugasio, pa je manastir pretvoren u parohijsku crkvu. Međutim crkva se nije održavala tako da se 1885. godine u njoj prestalo služiti a tri godine kasnije 1888. crkva se srušila. Privremeno je napravljena kapela u kojoj se služilo do podizanja nove crkve.
Sadašnja srkva je sagrađena 1892. godine, a osvećena 1911. kada je podignuta i zvonara. Tokom I Svetskog rata srkva je dosta oštećena a arhiva zapaljena. Crkva je ponovo pretvorena u manastir tokom 1936. godine. Manastir je tavorio sve do šezdesedih godina XX veka kada su sagrađena dva konaka i ostale zgrade. Novi procvat doživeo je dogradnjom krstionice i još dve crkve tokom 1984. i 1985. godine kada je manastir obogaćen i novim sadržajima.
