This photo was taken inside the compound of the Peć Patriarchate just outside the city of Peć/Peja near the Montenegrin border. The peace and quiet of the beautiful natural surroundings is deceitful - local Albanians have tried to burn the place down on several occasions (they actually succeeded once), so the whole compound is heavily guarded by UN troops who only let you in after inspecting your passport and asking the nuns on the inside to grant you permission to enter. It is, however, not allowed to take any photos inside the monastery itself or of the armed vehicles guarding the main entrance. The red tile roof belongs to the residence of the Patriarch of the Serb Orthodox church. It is allegedly also still here that new Patriarchs are crowned.
