This chapel (kapela Svetog Djordja - Saint George chapel) is located at the orthodox cemetery in town of Pancevo, Serbia. I took the photo while visiting my father's grave. A person can't avoid looking at the world differently at least for some time in these occasions. What came to my mind are the words of Joseph Addison (1 May 1672 – 17 June 1719, English essayist, poet, playwright, and politician), and they go like this:
When I look upon the tombs of the great, every emotion of envy dies in me;
When I read the epitaphs of the beautiful, every inordinate desire goes out;
When I meet with the grief of parents upon a tombstone, my heart melts with compassion;
When I see the tomb of the parents themselves, I consider the vanity of grieving for those we must quickly follow;
When I see kings lying by those who deposed them, when I consider rival wits placed side by side, or the holy men that divided the world with their contests and disputes, I reflect with sorrow and astonishment on the little competitions, factions and debates of the mankind;
When I read the several dates of the tombs, of some that died yesterday, and some six hundred years ago, I consider that great day when we shall all of us be contemporaries, and make our appearance together.

Zdravo Petre. Both the image and the Addison's ruminations are sobering for a world where little time is spent in such sentiments as we chase the dollar and pretend that we shall live forever. Great use of B&W and I particularly like the sky and the rays of the sun. Pozdrav. Klaudio.

There is. A great storm above me today as I read your note, and just as I read the last line, the sky cracked with a true donors thunderclap. Perfect timing to finish those beautiful somber words. They are very apt to accompany this great image too, your choice in black and white is perfectly considered. It is strange how so many of the grave monuments seem to echo the design of the church itself. Despite the dark areas and the black and white treatment, there is nothing dark about this image, in fact when read with your note, it takes on a completely new feeling.
Thanks as always
