Današnji Centar za kulturu - Jagodina nastao je u periodu 1950 - 1951. godine kada je otvorena Velika sala Centra za kulturu, koja je vazila za jednu od najlepših u tadašnjoj Jugoslaviji. U tom periodu su postavljeni temelji male sale, koja je završena 1964. godine.

1974. godine bioskop prerasta u Omladinski kulturni centar - Jagodina (koji je od 1965. godine bio u okviru Radničkog univerziteta).

1964. godine otvorena je Mala sala Centra za kulturu ispred koje je postavljena bista Svetozara Markovića i tada joj je promenjen naziv u Kulturni centar "Svetozar Marković".

Izvršni odbor SO Jagodina 1997. godine donosi odluku o promeni naziva u Kulturni centar.
Prva javna skulptura u posleratnom periodu u Jagodini vezana ja za Svetozara Markovića. Masivni kvader postamenta od tamnog mermera na kome je uklesan natpis SVETOZAR MARKOVIĆ 1846-1875 nosi kompoziciono uspelu polufiguru. Ona predstavlja S. Markovića u komunikaciji sa posmatračem jer ga podignutim kažiprstom desne ruke doziva. Na donjem grubo otesanom profilu, sa leve strane, čita se i potpis autora skulpture, Aleksandra Zarina, i godina izrade spomenika, 1960

The first public sculpture in the postwar period in Jagodina, I tied for Svetozar Marković.
