Photographer's Note

The Rača monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery 7 km south of Bajina Bašta, Serbia. The monastery was built by Stefan Dragutin (1276-1282). In 1826 it was reconstructed due to being burned down several times while Serbia was under the rule of the Ottoman Empire.

The photo shows the detail of the fair (Licider man shop) near monestery, on the Transfiguration Day, year 2007.

Licidar - man whose occupation is making honey cake. This occupation (craft) was formerly widespread in Serbia. Licidar cakes are more for viewing rather than for eating. Some licidar cakes are not eating because they contain flour and gypsum addition (to be nicer and more solid). The main purpose of it is to be an ornament and hang it around your neck or on a wall. So it does not matter whether they are fresh, but they look like.
Licidars sell their products in their stores or at fairs. Children are at fairs like their parents buy the colorful licidar cake (at least for one meal). Licidar cakes can be in the form of heart, shoes, guitars, cows ... The most common are not delicious.
The most famous cake is in the shape of a heart - Licidar heart. This heart, in addition to a variety of decorations, have a small mirror. At the fairs, boys give heart to girls, as a sign of sympathy.
