Photographer's Note
It’s all very toy-town, and the packed streets and kitsch souvenir shops are not everyone’s cup of tea. But the novelty value of this enclave cannot be overestimated.
Wedged in on all sides by Italy, a dozen kilometres from the Adriatic Coast in the Apennine Mountains, San Marino has been an independent republic since AD 301 when a Croatian stone-cutter built a church atop a windswept bluff here. San Marino’s constitution, the world’s oldest, dates to 1600 and its stunningly picturesque location on top of Mount Titano certainly justifies the myriad postcard and souvenir boutiques in which visitors spend a large part of the day browsing. Views of the deep blue from the clifftop fortress are jewel-like.

Hello Babrbara,
I understand your note very well, I have been there once, with the same mixture of feelings, exhausted by the crowds of tourist (me one of them) and charmed by the views.
I like your composition with the dominating curve of the street very much.
Best wishes
Romana

Bonjour Barbara,
Cette photo est pleine de lumière et de vestiges de cette singulière cité. Les touristes sont bien là pour donner aux rue un air de fête et remplir un peu les caisses des commerçants.
Amicalement

shows the architecture and the level changes nicely, good color & sharpness. When I was there there were hardly any tourists. Good picture.

Hi Barbara,
Lovely street corner on a perfect sunny day! I don't often come to see photos from this tiny city-state so it's quite interesting and amusing. Great note to accompany this picture too. Thanks for sharing and have a great day.
