This is a shot of the Orthodox Cathedral in Alba Iulia. Also known as the Church of the Coronation, the cathedral was built on the old site of Alba Iulia's citadel guardhouse in 1921-1922 for the coronation of King Ferdinand I and Queen Marie. Designed in the shape of a Greek circumscribed cross, the church is surrounded by a wall of decorative colonnades which form a rectangular enclosure. There are many marble inscriptions within the Cathedral that pay homage to the important events in the history of the city of Alba Iulia. The whole city played an influential role in the struggle of the Romanians for obtaining their independence; the national day of Romania, December 1st, is celebrated here every year by the top rank officials of the country, with huge masses of people attending.
