Old center Brasov Photo

Photographer’s Note

This is a panoramic view of the old central square (Piata Sfatului) in my home city, Brasov, and its surroundings, which include the gothic style Black Church, imposing on the left side of the shot, and the White Tower, finding its place on the little green hill. The shot was taken from atop Mount Tampa, which towers over the city at an altitude differential of close to 500 m. The scene for the international festival Cerbul de Aur was in full construction right in the middle of the square, but the hot summer day determined few people to wander its adjacent streets.

The picture was taken with my digital camera (Minolta DImage F100) and modified in ACDSee (adjusted exposure, sharpened, resized).

Nice shot, this brings back memories, I hope I'm able to go back to Brasov some day. This picture gives a nice feel for what the city is like and shows some of the most prominent features. The colors are a little pale though and there is a little too much jpeg-artefacts, but maybe the latter is due to the level of detail.

Very interresting aerial view of the city. It looks lithe the Mount Tampa is really steep for you really look over the city.

It was a good idea to include the forest and the cathedral in the composition.

Thank you very much for this picture : I was attending a meeting in this region (Poina Brasov) last week... However I saw only some places of Brasov like the black church from a bus during night ! It's a thousand pities...
