Ceausescus Palace, Casa Poporului (the house of the people), the House of Parliament - one building, many names. It is THE landmark of Bucharest, a building like a small mountain, the second largest building in the world. They started building it more than 22 years ago, and still it´s not finished. An entire nation had to starve to finance the construction of this palace of marble and kitsch, and nobody knows how many died for it.

For this building and its surroundings a large part of the historical center of Bucharest had been torn down, including some old churches and monastries. It´s the starting point of a 2,5 km long boulevard, wider than the Champs-Elysees of Paris, sliced through the city like with a sharp knife.

This is the first one of a small series of interior pics of that building, showing its monstrosity.
