Piata este impartita in doua parti distincte de strada Ocnei care coboara pe sub Podul Minciunilor spre orasul de jos.
Latura nordica a pietei urmareste conturul celei de-a doua centuri de fortificatii, prezentandu-se sub forma circulara. Cladirile din partea stanga strazii Ocnei, au o forma concava si urmaresc conturul primei centuri de fortificatii, ele despartind Piata Mica de Piata Huet.
Cladirile din Piata Mica (cu o singura exceptie) nu au acel portal masiv, boltit caracteristic Pietei Mari sau strazii Balcescu. Caracteristica caselor din Piata Mica este loggia de la parter, boltita si semideschisa spre piata, cu arcade semicirculare sutinute de portanti. Aceste cladiri adaposteau ateliere mestesugaresti si in aceste spatii erau etalate marfurile.
Cladirile sunt inalte si prezinta acele lucarne lenticulare cunoascute sub denumirea de "ochii sibiului". Cladirile dateaza din sec. XIV - XVI cu modificari ulterioare.
O alta caracteristica a pietei o constituie prezenta unui numar mare de felinare prinse de cladiri, confectionate din fier forjat cu un decor vegetal. Acestea dateaza din sec XIX.
Der Platz wird durch die Burgergasse (Str. Ocnei), die unter der Lügenbrücke in die Unterstadt führt, in zwei Teile getrennt.
Die nördliche und östliche Seite des Platzes folgen den Konturen des zweiten Verteidigungsgürtels in seiner runden Form. Die Gebäude links von der Burgergasse (Str. Ocnei) sind konkav und folgen den Umrissen des ersten Befestigungsrings. Sie trennen den Kleinen Ring (Piata Mica) vom Huetplatz (Piata Huet).
Die Gebäude des Kleinen Rings (Piata Mica) haben - mit einer Ausnahme - nicht die massiven Gewölbeportale, die typisch sind für den Großen Ring (Piata Mare) oder die Heltauergasse (Str. Balcescu). Charakteristisch für die Häuser am Kleinen Ring sind vielmehr die gewölbten Loggias im Erdgeschoss, die zum Platz hin geöffnet und mit halbkreisförmigen Lauben ausgestattet sind. In diesen Bögen wurden die Waren ausgestellt, die von den Handwerksbetrieben in den Häusern hergestellt wurden.
Die Gebäude sind hoch gebaut und verfügen über jene linsenförmigen Dachfenster, die unter der Bezeichnung „Augen von Hermannstadt" bekannt geworden sind
The Small Square is the second largest historic place of Sibiu and one of the most beautiful square in town.
This square is a magnificent place surrounded by preserved medieval buildings and it is connected to the Large Square through narrows passages.
Ocnei Street divides the square in two and is the main way to the lower town.
The Liars Bridge is spanning over the street and make the connection to the Huet Square
Museum of Pharmacy, Museum 'Emil Sigerus' and Museum 'Franz Binder' are located here, as well as The Art House and the Goldsmith's Tower (1567) that connects the square with the lower tower through the Goldsmiths Passage, one of the most beautiful places in Sibiu.
From the architectural point of view, the Small Square is different from the Large Square, considering that this one was used mainly for trade and business during the years.
In the Small Square is the entry into the Council Tower through a narrow door and stairway. |
