Photographer’s Note

Another interior shot of the medieval castle in Hunedoara (Eisenmarkt/Huniadstadt/Vajda Huniad).
This is the round staircase, which was built in the 15th century, on the side of the wing with the large gothic halls. This is one of the three round staircases of the castle. There is another smaller round staircase which has been damaged throughout the centuries but still survives unrepaired, having been part of the medieval gatetower structure. The other grander staircase is in the "Mase" tower. The round staircase offers direct access from the courtyard to the Council Hall and the adjacent tower, which in the 1600s became the new gatetower.
I tried to find an angle from which to capture as much of the staircase as possible, which is narrow and quite steep. It was an akward position and I was pushing myself against the walls, standing above the stairs.

Taken with my digital camera and edited in Photoshop (resized, brightness and contrast, sharpened, frame, saved for web)
