Photographer's Note

Another shot of hay making in Romania, the blades are special steel that will take an edge so sharp I think it would be easy to shave with. Every 10 or 20 strokes of the sythe and the man stoped to wipe his blade with cut grass then hone his blade with a fine stone, Ant hills were carefuly avoided as were the mole hills and ground voles (don't know their proper name but I have never seen them before.
One thing IO have not seen before was the peening of the blade, a very skilful hammering of the edge to draw it out and make the cutting edge thinner. This he did maybe 2-3 a day
